Re: 0-20 Oil and Saturns

If OldNuc (RIP) was here he would mention that the materials used in Saturn seals don't swell with those high mileage additives. So I'm not sure they do any harm but I don't think they do any good....

Re: Ford v Ferrari - will the Saturn story ever...

I've never owned a Gen 1 Saturn but the ones I've seen in the JY have aluminum blocks. Do you have a picture of a cast iron block in a Saturn?

Wikipedia is unaware of S Series cast iron blocks...

Re: 1997 SW2 can't get new spark plug wires on

That is exactly the path I took. If it's good, let it go. If the leaks come back, go for the aluminum cover. If you frequent junkyards, you may consider picking one up it it is available. Less gen 1...

Re: Running hotter after tune up

On my '98 my ECTS connector failed when I took it off. The wires looked like this.

Re: Intermittent No-Start

I am pretty sure he bought the same ground cable that I did. That was earlier in the thread.

Re: Running hotter after tune up

I don't think the tuneup would affect the running temperature. Not sure why it would be indicating differently. It could be an indication issue since the fan doesn't turn on.

Re: 1997 SW2 can't get new spark plug wires on

I put a new gasket on my '98 with a plastic cover. It seemed better at first, but then started leaking again and flooding the #1 plug. I've since gone to an aluminum valve cover and that has been...

How do we know you are the real Toggenburg and not a Russian operative? I can see the operative torturing Toggenburg for his SaturnFans password, who then takes it to his death. For all we know you...

Re: 1999 SW1 Poor Engine Power...Fuel Pump???

My '98 does not have a pre-cat. I don't know the answer to your exhaust fitment question, but please post your experience and what exhaust you bought. My '99 is due for a new exhaust. I think my cat...

Re: 1999 SW1 Poor Engine Power...Fuel Pump???

I think if you are moderately careful you can leave the manifold on. It was easy to get it with the manifold off. I'd shop vac it out and maybe briefly start it before you put the pipe back on to...

Re: Water on floors and in trunk

I'd say not normal. If the rain can go right into the screen, it will end up on the floor.

Re: and so it begins....

Maybe the Canadian cars are set to 1.5ml. Could have been a screw up of some Saturn engineer converting to metric!

My '99 and '98 light up with about 1.5 gallons (5.678L) to go.

Re: 1997 SW2 can't get new spark plug wires on

The hot setup would have been to get an aluminum valve cover.

Re: air filter box reserve canister A51. Missing!

That's what I was thinking also. Easy part to grab at the junkyard.

Does it really give more powah?

Re: Surging and very high compression

I think if I needed injectors I'd go to LKQ. $12ea and if they don't work you can go back and get different ones.

Rust issues - if you want to live them vicariously, check out my thread starting at post 166. You have to remove a drag link bolt to move the parking brake cable for fuel filter access. Probably...

Re: 1999 SW1 Poor Engine Power...Fuel Pump???

The wait 2 second thing is not uncommon. I don't think it's a lazy pump, just leakage back to the tank. My '98 does that, my '99 doesn't. If you want to rule out the fuel pump, check the pressure.

Re: Ford v Ferrari - will the Saturn story ever...

S Series engines are aluminum with steel liners. The rings are fine, the lack of drain holes in the oil ring groove is what causes oil consumption in the S Series. My oil rings were coked up solid...
