Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

You have a compression leak into the water jacket and probably between 2 cylinders. That is commonly called a blown head gasket. The leak is probably between 3 and 4 based on your numbers. These get...

Re: Engine knocking sound

Sure you can. If you heat it enough to release the torque it is way over the temperature where the hardening has been removed. The belleville washer is also no longer any good as that is what is...

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Any of those screen gaskets do the job. A small particle of carbon on the seat hold the valve open and allows a jet of hot exhaust gas through the valve on every cylinder exhaust stroke. This hot...

Re: Engine knocking sound

That is a hardened bolt and there is absolutely no reason to use any heat on it to allow removal.

Re: 1999 Saturn SL2 - Rislone Block Seal (Head Gasket)

Bubbling or boiling is not a good or normal sign ever.

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

I have a good selection of brand new valves that leaked right out of the box. I test every one and send lots right back. Use a Klean Screen under the EGR and you do not end up cutting the seat on a...

Re: 1999 Saturn SL2 - Rislone Block Seal (Head Gasket)

All I am saying is the smke from the exhaust is OIL and not coolant etc. How much is going away and how fast depends on how tight the engine is being wound up and its mechanical condition. When the...

Re: Engine knocking sound

Heating that bolt destroys it so where are you going to get another one? You tube and this forum is full of easy methods to remove that crank bolt with no collateral damage so use search or ask and...

Re: 1999 Saturn SL2 - Rislone Block Seal (Head Gasket)

That is excess oil that you are burning, not a problem.

It is called Dimensional Weight and all shippers use it, including the USPS.

Re: Engine knocking sound

Actually the crank pulley, it is not a balancer by design, can be removed by hand with a 24" breaker bar and the special 4' cheater bar. Keep in mind that the washer is a belleville washer and has a...

Re: What are the sway bar bushing that attach to the frame called

Go pull 2 of the 99-02 dogbones from the trans side only and then rebuild them with the polly inserts. This will do wonders for your car IF it has a sooth idle....

Re: What are the sway bar bushing that attach to the frame called

Yes, they are stilted just like the old rubber ones. If you use the polly they will come with a thick gooey silicone lube, use it or you will have squeaks and the friction will destroy the polly...

Re: 98 sl2 drilled out ignition now won't shift out of park

There is a mechanical interlock cable between the ignition housing that is pulled by the rotation of the lock cylinder. The thing you are twisting with the screw driver is the ignition SWITCH. Find...

Re: 96 SC2 bringing it back to life (slowly)

There have been lots of hard to detect and/or understand with the well aged injectors in these older GM/Saturn cars. The recommendation is to just up and replace them with the recommended new or...

Re: SL fender size for shipping

Saturn fender is way less than 100lb, it will be a box full of air. The box will weight more than the fender inside of the box.

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

You will not see a leaking EGR. Turn it upside down, fill the pintle side with light oil and stick a rubber tipped blow gun in the other port press hard and open the air. If there is a cloud of oil...

Re: Splice ECTS connector?

You try butt splices and you will have problems so just do it right the first time, solder and heart shrink. That circuit is a microampere circuit and any corrosion and it fails.

Re: SL fender size for shipping

Measure the length and max height of the one on the car and the thickness is the inner top flange to the widest point. Measure just in front of hood hinge. It will be dimensional weight. Not a lot of...

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Fix all of the exhaust leaks or you are going to be chasing ghosts. There is nothing wrong with the head or gasket. That idle behavior sounds a lot like a leaking EGR so block it off.

Re: 93 SW2 sudden loss of oil pressure

OPV is far from failure prone but a chunk of plastic guide will jam it open. Most likely cause is guide fragments in the pump and the timing cover recess is now sufficiently scored that all oil...

Re: Transmission End Cover - Am I missing something?

New cover is the place to start anyway. Keep in mind that the system has fixed adaptives set by the OEM at time of manufacturer and a continuous learning set. With the failure you have these learned...

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Is that a Bosch O2 sensor of the universal type?

EGR can cause issues but usually at idle. If you have a rough idle then block it off and see if the problem goes away. Looking at the sensor it has...
