Re: HELP! Car has power but won't start

90% likelihood. Dead Starter.

On Saturns they often just go out with no warning. Seen it so many times that It's almost not worth testing.. just get a new starter and be done with the problem.

Re: 2015- The end of Saturn Ownership... Read On...

My concern was same as above. Has it always acted odd and had misfire? Or is it recent?

Re: 2015- The end of Saturn Ownership... Read On...

Depends on the intake and exhaust. 99 is a transition year with some motors having the older parts and some the newer. In this case I am assuming the motor has the older parts unless they did a lot...

Re: 2015- The end of Saturn Ownership... Read On...

Your intermittent misfire maybe caused by a need to do a crankshaft relearn procedure. An odd problem I ran into when I replaced my motor on a 99 SW2. A good shop with ASE cert and a Tech2 scanner...

Re: Turn Key ... No Cranking

Most likely the starter. It may strat working again for a bit or not. Kinda random luck. It is not unusual for the starter to just give out without warning on the s series

Re: Observations regarding ABS and Traction Control

NO I was not aware of that. I also doubt it. Having grown up where you spend at least 5 months a year driving on various grades of totally iced roads I find it difficult to believe that any...

Re: Observations regarding ABS and Traction Control

Interesting. That is quite different than my experience with the 99 version. The ABS on this one is loud , very noticeable and will engage under many situations. Often where not needed. In addition...

Re: Why's my 99 SW2 w/99,000 slower than my 97 SW2 with 211,000???

Gauges at 1/4 exact? Need a thermostat (along with other good suggestions above). You are running too cool.

99 should be about halfway between 1/4 and 1/2 the 2000 should show at a little above...

Re: 97 Saturn starts but won't turn over

I am leaning towards Wires/plugs or coils.. If it were me the next step would be replace wires and plugs .. then replace ECTS. Because both those are very inexpensive simple very possible fixes....

Re: In the jaws of defeat

If the above does not solve the problem.

What has worked for me twice on two different cars after doing everything you have done.

Clear the code with a code reader. Drive it 50 miles and go get...

Re: Problem after replacing ect sensor

The wireing on the clip for the ects tends to be pretty fragile. You can use the same clip from the temp sensor on the air filter intake to replace it with.

Re: Any ideas re keeping engine warm in cold winters?

Cardboard in front of the radiator is an old trick in Alaska. Basically anything you can do to block airflow over the motor. That cardboard heat reflector idea posted above seems worthwhile too....

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

That does seem a bit odd grun.. I know I was stoked to find this little red wagon. Felt like $500 was a fair deal.

BTW the crankshaft relearn did the trick it seems. So a huge thanks to SF Forums...

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

The manifold and exhaust outlets on the motor where thoroughly cleaned during instal. However I did not clean out the tube so that is one possibility.

Strange thing is that the Air Pump runs every...

Re: My New Manual SW2 (project)

I ended up getting the compression number to even out around 150 with some cleaning advice from OldNuc. The engine should continue to get better for a bit as it's run and I chase down the exhaust...

Today I'll get a 30day permit from...
