Re: 2002 LW300: Rear Bumper Cover Replacement (need more parts?)

Thanks, rb6667. The insurance company is taking care of everything, so I will not have to purchase the bumper cover. I spoke with the individual doing the estimate and he said they only needed the...

Re: Will aftermarket catalytic converter cause SES light to come on in OBD2 vehicles?

I just got off the phone with a local GM dealer. They don't just sell the cat, it also comes with everything in front of the cat less the manifold...$1244 + $80 core charge + $7 gasket.

Will aftermarket catalytic converter cause SES light to come on in OBD2 vehicles?

I need to replace the catalytic converter in my 96 SW1. My local, trusted mechanic said that it's been his experience that aftermarket catalytic converters will often (sooner or later) cause the SES...

Re: 2002 LW300: Recommended parts for timing belt and water pump replacement

Guys,

Thanks for the information. The parts for both the timing belt kit and water pump are RockAuto recommendations based on my serial #.

I've not read anything regarding seals on other...

Re: 96 SW1: MAJOR external coolant leak

It's pure, orange Dexcool. Don't see any oil. I flushed and refilled the coolant when I changed the thermostat on December 16th.

I'll take a closer look tomorrow to see if the intake manifold is...

Re: This is what happens to old thermostats

And I thought my original (http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1692296&postcount=24) with 213,000 miles was bad! Yours exploded!

How many miles did you get out of this?

Re: 96 SW1: MAJOR external coolant leak

Bingo. I've been wrestling with this. At 213,000 miles and many parts still original I could really ring up a huge bill if I want other items addressed. Even if I didn't touch anything else, how...

Re: 96 SW1: MAJOR external coolant leak

How much am I looking to pay a professional to fix this?

I'm seriously hesitant on attempting this myself. Looking for a how-to video right now.

Re: 96 SW1: MAJOR external coolant leak

I replaced the ECTS 2 1/2 years ago. I'm pretty sure I didn't over tighten. I replaced the thermostat last weekend and the engine runs warmer than it ever has in the 10 years I've owned it.

Good news, bad news.

Good news, found the leak.

Bad news...

Coolant begins flowing from this part of the engine within 20 seconds of starting cold.

Okay SaturnFans members, *gulp*, let's...

96 SW1: MAJOR external coolant leak

Well, fdryer said it might happen. I've noticed coolant coming from this general area (pic below) for quite a while (at least two years). Replaced thermostat last weekend and just yesterday white...

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

The original is 85C/185F and the new one is 87C/188.6F. Not a big difference. The real difference I'm experiencing is probably because the thermostat is actually working!

I was just sitting...

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

Here's two images of the old thermostat. The rubber o-ring was shot. One should NOT be able to see the silver ring within the o-ring.

Replaced for the first time at 213,000 miles.

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

Just replaced the original thermostat yesterday. It would barely climb above the 1/4 mark in recent months except for those times when it occasionally jumped over the 1/2 way mark in stop and go...

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

Coolant everywhere underneath. Trying to trace it back up to a source, but difficult. Could it be leaking from elsewhere besides hosing or radiator? Hoses don't appear to be leaking.

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

It does loose quite a bit of "zip" when the temp gauge approaches and/or passes the 1/2 mark. It's noticeably sluggish when I attempt to accelerate from a stop when it's that hot.

Re: 96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

fdryer,

Now you've really got me thinking. Once the car is fully warmed up, the temp gauge normally sits 1/4 above the first mark (at most). On occasion, over the past few years, particularly in...

96 SW1: Gas mileage drops in colder weather

96 SW1 212,000 miles

Last winter I noticed that my fuel economy decreased significantly as soon as it got cold (below 40 F). I was losing up to 50 miles/tank. Normal mileage returned as soon as...

Re: 2002 LW300 - Replacing coil pack: best brand? video or written how-to instructio

Okay, so I bailed on fixing it myself. Took it to the local Firestone. Coil pack for plugs 1,3,5 was the culprit. Had them replace all 6 plugs while they were at it. Runs fine now.

You are...
