Re: Secondary air pump at operating temp

30 - 60 seconds is the typical run time on cold start, so your 42 seconds sounds correct.

Re: 1999 SW2 Won't START 75,867 miles

Just for clarification, P0401 is EGR related. The secondary air injection code is P0410.

Re: Diverter Valve (P0410 !)

When my diverter valve failed, it was the actuator. Valve would get good vacuum on cold start, and the air pump ran fine, but the diverter valve would not open. I did disassemble mine and was able...

Re: How many miles left once Low Fuel light comes on?

I take a 400 mile trip quite often for work. My low fuel light would come on right at the end of the trip, and it always took between 10.0 and 10.3 gallons to fill at that point. Maybe 3rd gen got...

Re: Anyone in the Houston area have a decent front engine cradle/subframe for a 2002

If it is mine, it is straight and rust free. I would not use the control arms on it though. They are originals and worn out!

Re: Anyone in the Houston area have a decent front engine cradle/subframe for a 2002

You might try Charlies Auto Salvage on FM 2920 east of Tomball. That's where I left my worn out 2002 SC1 3 months ago.

Re: 3.5k rpm idle after TB replacement, settled down now

I had the same experience when I replaced my IAC years back. It takes a bit for the PCM to understand the new device, but once it does, idle will stay normal. Sounds like you have succeeded with...

Re: 2001 SC1 p0410 & p0446

For the P0410, if you have done all you said, then you will have to remove the exhaust manifold and clean out the 4 air passages in the head behind the manifold.

I never fixed the P0446 on my car...

Re: evacuate a/c system

Basically, yes. Any time an a/c system is opened, it must be evacuated once the repairs are complete. The only question is how much oil to add. This depends on the nature of the failure of the...

Re: 99 SC2 ABS light

Don't know about the ABS, but DRL's going off when the handbrake is applied is normal and by design.

Re: 2002 SC1 needs new home

Sold it to the local recycler for $200 this morning. Hopefully pieces of it will live on.

Re: 2001 SC2 Operating Temp

3rd gen setup results in a lower normal gauge reading than 2nd gen. 3/8 scale with a/c running is normal, since the cooling fans runs constantly with a/c on. If you sit in traffic with the a/c off,...

Re: 2001 Saturn SC2 revs dropping at idle - engine stall

Manual or automatic?

A dirty throttle body and failing Idle Air Control Valve could combine to create the symptoms you are seeing.

Re: 2002 SC1 needs new home

No sunroof. RKE stopped working a few years back. Power windows. Driver's window needs to be lubricated to work right. Rust free Houston, TX car.

Re: 2002 SC1 needs new home

A few pics attached. The car is not an embarrassment, but it does show some wear. A lot of clear coat has peeled off the left side, the rear bumper cover has minor damage, and the right headlight...

2002 SC1 needs new home

Today is my final commute in the old SC1. For $300 it can be yours. Immediate needs are front suspension rebuild and brake service. Convenience issues are headliner and speakers. A/C works. 315k...

Re: Bad clutch hydraulics?

Step one would be to check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder reservoir and top it off if needed with clean brake fluid.

Re: The end is near

That's unusual for your location - good maintenance. I've never broken a bolt on this car either, and have replaced the fuel filter and the sway bar bushings as well as pulling the exhaust manifold...

Re: The end is near

Bought a 2018 Elantra GT, electric blue, 2.0 liter, 6 sp manual. The manual is hard to find, so the car is coming from out west somewhere, hence the wait.

A spare car is nice. My old Crown Vic...

Re: The end is near

Yes, that would be a long trip. The car would probably make it though, and you could impress your friends with how pristine the underside of a 17 year old car that's never seen road salt can be!!!

The end is near

My new car arrives this weekend, which spells the end for my Saturn. 17 years and 315,000 miles - a long and noble life. Couldn't have done it without the advice and encouragement from the fine...

Re: Secondary air injection system

Glad you got it sorted. This system is a pain. Honestly, if I add up all the time I've spent fixing my Saturn, over 50% of it would be related to the secondary air injection system.

Re: Silly Electrons

Just an update to this bizarre story. Yesterday, thanks in part to the non-functioning chime, I left the headlights on all afternoon at work. Starter would barely turn when I went to leave. Got a...

Re: Secondary air injection system

If you are seeing vacuum at the diverter valve after the air pump shuts off, then that solenoid switch is likely stuck open. Operating in this state will trash the new air pump, with hot exhaust...
