Re: Just came to a realization....

All those apparently good Saturns at the junk yard, couldn't they be bought, re-titled and put back on the road or is that not reasonable? I know some state don't take kindly to re-manufactured (if...

Re: Previous Owner RANT!

Obviously there are good reasons for running an older car but beyond that none of you seems to realize what Saturn fans you are and how much you enjoy automotive DIY projects. The point is that most...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Unfortunately the subject did not specifically come up and I should have confirmed it, but I'm pretty sure the new owner is aware. Both he and his wife drive older cars one of them dating back to...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Well that's it; the SL1 has found a new home as of Saturday. It looks like the new owner will take good care of her and keep her going strong.

Thanks again for all your contributions.

Re: Farewell to SL1

Craig, I believe that you'd be hard pressed to find a "basic" car in today's new car market. The Corolla L which is the model with manual trans comes with power steering, power windows and keyless...

Re: Farewell to SL1

It is true that the Corolla isn't particularly stylish but then except for the Civic, neither are the Nissan Sentra, Hyundai Elantra, etc.

As for a bad experience with a car dealer, in my mind...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Skippy I like smaller cars too, but I've seen first hand what's left after an SUV plowed into a Smart car. The protective cage held out but the forces were intense and the lack of crumple zone I'm...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Adventureoflink you expect so more from a car manufacturer than I do. Needless to say, you have a valid point. But think about it, wasn't it Ford who said that he'd paint his cars any color as long...

Re: Farewell to SL1

That's certainly true but then what is the point of having the extra "cogs"? What were the designers thinking of? If their reason was to save fuel it's not going to happen if the driver skips gears.

Hey thanks, alordofchaos, I'll have to check that out. It may be a little different on the 2013.

Re: Farewell to SL1

I haven't looked at the Dodge Dart but have owned 3 Plymouths with less then ideal outcomes.

The Civic lines are nicer than the Corolla's but the headroom is poor. Also the dashboard is a two...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Adventureoflink you almost seem upset. I've never claimed that Toyota is any better than any other make, nor am I recommending it to anyone else. Just because Toyota is selling more cars than most...

Re: Farewell to SL1

Pitcher, I understand the economics of keeping a car that is paid for. On the other hand, a 15 year old car is more susceptible to break downs and requires more tender loving care. In addition,...

Farewell to SL1

I want to thank you all for helping me keep my í98 SL1 alive and well. This forum just cannot be equaled and Iíll miss it greatly. Sales incentives being what they were we broke down and purchased...

Re: 2002 SL1 Air Conditioning rebuild

You will definitely need a removal tool with a deep notch. The notch on the typical tool is not deep enough to clear the center post on the valve. Most automotive supply stores will have what you...

Re: Spare gone bad

I'm wondering if we aren't being penny conscious and pound foolish here. If a replacement is in fact available from Firestone, then the $160 + tax cost may be a good investment. After all, termite...

Re: $20 DIY pressure bleeder, anyone else make one recently?

There is a design flaw with this approach. As everyone knows, brake fluid absorbs moisture easily. Submitting brake fluid to even a small amount of pressure will greatly accelerate if not guarantee...

Re: Wont go into gear.

Check to see that the slave cylinder rod is in its place inside the dimple. Since the hydraulics were previously used, it is a bit tricky to get things located correctly and not drop the rod in the...

Re: Annoying hum while driving SL2 1999 85k

Is it a humming or squealing sound? See if you can identify which side of the car it is coming from. If it is on the passenger side it could be the intermediate shaft bearing (between transaxle and...

Headliners

What is it about headliners that they don't hold up in some cars. The headliner in my '98 SL1 is fine except for a couple of holes that were accidentally made, but I've been noticing even later SLs...

Re: Annoying hum while driving SL2 1999 85k

Did your steering wheel actually lock up or did you perhaps lose power steering and that made it feel like it locked up. How did you unlock it?

Relative to the hum, you say you hear it around 30...

Re: 2002 SL1 Air Conditioning rebuild

I stand corrected. Fdryer and BV22 are absolutely right R134a does come in 12oz cans. Two full cans cans of R134a equates to a 1.5 lbs charge.

Re: 2002 SL1 Air Conditioning rebuild

I've never heard of anyone recovering dessicant, but that may be because it is not cost effective. The usual practice is to replace the dryer. The dessicants are in a bag which sometimes fail,...
