Re: My Poor Poor (Wrecked) 2002 SC2 :(

Eric, there are no "push pins" on your 2002. For the 2000-2002 S-Series interior, you need to remove the entire trim panel around the radio/HVAC/steering column/gauge cluster (as displayed in the...

Re: changing my shifter...help!

Based on others' experiences with pulling the knob, most brute-force methods involving back seats and standing in the sunroof result in smashed testicles and double-H shift patterns imprinted into...

Re: Best year for SL2? Worst?

Tony Soprano would be displeased. :p

Re: Best year for SL2? Worst?

I favor the 95 SL2, for reasons stated above about the old body style with the better interior. This coming from someone who owns a 97 SL2.

That said, if I had to buy a used one today, I would...

Re: time to replace brake pads/rotors?

The corrosion on the edges of the rotor is normal -- they are iron, afterall.

I don't have much to add that hasn't been mentioned by everybody else above. My personal experience and advice on...

Re: Brakes

There should be a wealth of information on the forums that you can search through. However, changing the front disc brake pads is a pretty straightforward job, even for a relative novice IMO. To be...

Re: SL2 tips ideas?

I've previously considered putting a roof rack on my SL2 for my bikes. I'm not sure about OE solutions, but both Yakima and Thule make the proper foot and fit kits for our cars. I have had good...

Re: Which tires?

Many of the big chain stores should rotate, patch, and balance your tires for free as long as you buy the tires from them. This has been my experience with America's Tire Co. and WheelWorks/Evan's...

Re: Touch-Up Paint?

If it's just small stone chips and scratches, I suggest using clear nail polish. I have purchased touch-up paint for my car before (97 silver) directly from the Saturn parts counter, and it matches...

Re: Usa !!

Bridgestone is actually a Japanese company.

I have Bridgestone Potenza RE950 tires on my SL2. Brand new, the cornering was mushy and they broke away unpredictably. After a couple hundred...

Re: black emblems?

Front emblems and side emblems for the S-series are held on by plastic retaining nuts.

Rear emblems for the 1997+ SC and 2000-2002 L-Series reflex panels are adhered to the panel. A thin...

Re: It Sounds Like a Harmonica...

ssicarman,

I checked my brakes about 5K miles ago, and all my pads and shoes still had at least 75% of their life in them. I replaced them myself, along with the front discs, about 10K miles ago....

Dizzy It Sounds Like a Harmonica...

Here's a story about my 97 SL2a.

I replaced my steering rack three years ago because it was acting up, making the typical "zipping noise", accompanied by a slight grainy feel to the steering. The...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

The lack of a more powerful engine makes me sad.

Here's to hoping for a Red Line version of the pumped-up GTC.

Re: Car Wax + Saturns = Bad?

I've just spent the past eight hours washing, clay barring, polishing, and waxing my car. I can barely move my right arm anymore.

I haven't even gotten around to the second coat of wax, nor have...

Re: So, who here is "Old School"?

I remember Rag Ishmikagig (sp?). He drove a yellow Saturn taxicab. Whether this guy was for real or not, I don't think anyone will ever know, but he was incredibly hilarious. I'm sure VTHokie...

Re: Power steering oil

I second everybody else's suggestion to check for leaks. The only reason you'd need to add PS fluid is if it's leaking out. That has been my experience in the past. Not surprisingly, when I...

Re: Tech Says My Engine Is Too Clean

If that was the case, I'd rather let the dried mud accumulate on the rear bumper, and let the empty soda cans and burger wrappers pile up in my trunk.

Re: Tech Says My Engine Is Too Clean

I guess the quick 5-minute engine-bay wipedown I did right before I drove her to the retailer was a mistake. If I ever take her to the retailer for service work, I clean her up a bit, with the...

Re: Tech Says My Engine Is Too Clean

Reminds me of the time I took my car into a Saturn retailer in another city. This particular retailer has an area dedicated to oil changes, and the oil changes are done by teenage morons you would...

Tech Says My Engine Is Too Clean

I perform my own maintenance work on my 97 SL2 90% of the time, unless it's too difficult for my home garage, or if I simply don't have time to do it myself during my busy work schedule. This week,...

Re: Aura XE beats new Camry LE, but loses to Accord 2.4

Ignore the bogus "Gotta Have It" factor, and the other cars score quite a few points closer to the Accord. Whatever happened to objective, zero-fluff analysis?

"Gotta get me one of them there...

Re: "Cheap and joyless" - Car & Driver Nov 2006

I have no experience with the VUE GL, so for all I know, the VUE GL could indeed be a turd.

But "weak engineering effort"? How about we give the expert engineers at C&D 24 months to develop...
