Re: My experience with Motor Oils and my Saturn

35K or 350K? 35K miles is like municipal usage were the vehicles is driven for specific tasks only and usually just sits.

Very nice! I often wish I could go back in time just to get vehicles.

Re: What's the " best" year S-series?

That'd odd. I associate air pumps with early emissions systems and California. That makes me think the 1.9L Saturn is dirtier than most engines... must be all the oil :D

It's a different...

Re: What's the " best" year S-series?

Why do you have an air pump? I don't have one on my 2000 SL2. Is your car California emissions instead of Federal?

Re: Cooling Fan Quit Kicking On

There's a user posted picture that says "made in China"... That's too bad, and I'm surprised. I've had several that I've gotten for my truck and they've been made in Canada.

Re: Need Linux help

That was my first Linux distribution. Then SolydX and now Debian. I've never had a Windows 8 or 10 machine.

Re: Dumbest Unintentional Thing You've Done To Your Saturn

The impact from the spring loaded bare arm? That really stinks.

Re: Need help diagnosing problem

Sure they're corrosive, but they're not going to travel down the cable.

But you already did say in a previous post... "That battery failed for a reason and that reason is acid soaked cables."...

Re: Need help diagnosing problem

It's liquid acid that is the problem, not fumes. The battery failed from being over tightened at the terminal, creating a leak. If there's no leak at a particular terminal, it will clean up fine......

Re: Need help diagnosing problem

When I had my first couple of vehicles, I was doing that on a regular basis. I would look for parking spots that made it possible.:D

Re: Need help diagnosing problem

They only need to be replaced if acid leaked into them. The OP mentioned the positive side being corroded, not the negative. He's not burning up batteries and alternators.

A careful inspection of...

Re: Need help diagnosing problem

You may need to replace that battery and battery cable. Often a corroded side post battery means it's been over tightened, and it's leaking acid. That acid will leak right into the battery cable...

Re: Starter Motor Brands and New vs Reman

I would go with either of the Delcos. I put a new AC Delco Professional in my truck and it works great. I didn't realize my original had slowed down until I put the new starter in. I replaced it...

Re: 2001 SC2 Ventilation Fan

To see if the blower motor works connect it directly to power... I use my battery charger, but it's an older one. The newer "smart" chargers probably won't work for this... I think they have to...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

I need to start seriously looking for new tires... at least a pair. I noticed the other day the fronts are getting bad.

Re: Missing 94 SL found in Lake with deceased driver

Those houses are really packed in there!

I too am surprised the car wasn't found sooner. I guess with all the pools, I see, there aren't any kids swimming in those ponds... maybe they're too...

Re: Anyone know of an idiot proof guide on how to replace a 99 SL1 sway bar?

Oops, I can't edit my post.... I wasn't careful of what thread I was replying too. I was thinking of a cheater bar, not using the pipe clamp as a clamp.

Re: Anyone know of an idiot proof guide on how to replace a 99 SL1 sway bar?

The pipe clamps I've seen are usually small-ish diameter black pipe. I think it would bend too easily, if it even fit over the handle.

Re: Great Autozone deals

I don't want to spend that much...that's a lot.... Check out Rockauto's prices. I bought Raybestos rotors and pads for my Saturn for less than $50. My truck was more.

Re: valve cover vents

He may be using a jar. They're typically called a "catch can". They're a popular modification that has dubious benefits, in most cases, from what I have read. Our cars may benefit, but I don't see...

Re: valve cover vents

One is an IN and the other is an OUT. One brings in filtered air to the crank case, and the other gets air/vapors sucked out through it.
