Re: 01 sc1 overheated seized bottom end?

On the plus side, you won't have much rust to deal with :)

The crank relearn info is explained around posts 21-26 in this thread; looks like it will only be needed if you start throwing misfire...

Re: Overheating

I don't think codes were mentioned before this post - that's important information :)

P0117 - trace your ECTS wiring as far back to the PCM as you can. You may have a break along the way. Here is...

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

This would be great to convert to a manual trans car - $260

Mileage not stated, seller says everything runs great except leaking auto trans

Re: 2001 sc2 overheating, now it's not turning on

Yes, car won't run without fuel pump :)

The concern is whether the fuel pump was getting power, due to the F5/A2 issue. It's not completely ruled out (intermittent electrical failures are lots...

Re: 01 sc1 overheated seized bottom end?

That's is why I asked. :)

The question mark after SC1 provides a little hope. Guessing OP hasn't looked closely at the donor car yet. Could be an SC2?

DOHC engine in this pic, note spark...

Re: Top or bottom?

Is there anything you can do ahead of time (e.g., tape bits of cardboard around the engine, or around brake master) that would help with the snagging, or to protect bits?

Re: 01 sc1 overheated seized bottom end?

Just to clarify:

The car in question is a 2001 SC1, seized motor, with an automatic trans?

And the donor is . . . ? with a manual trans?

Final result will be the 2001 SC1, donor engine,...

Re: Engine knocking sound

IIRC, 2000-2002 is direct swap, probably 1999 and 1998, too, depending on how strict your province is on emissions checking and original equipment requirements. '97 and earlier will work though I...

Re: Engine knocking sound

Bumper cover is easy to remove.

I don't think most folks have the equipment to tell if a hardened bolt has been damaged (but not outright destroyed) by heating, until the bolt actually fails.

Re: Bought an 97 SL1 Wagon without cruise control

Thanks, I'll remember Art Moehn in case anyone local needs cruise turned on.

You're gonna like the car . . . expect 40 mpg hwy and once they are sorted out, they are very reliable (though it's...

Re: 1999 Saturn SL2 - Rislone Block Seal (Head Gasket)

Oh, got it. My misunderstanding.

Still, I'm a little concerned about the oil going down to the ADD mark at the bottom of the hatches. OP shouldn't let it get down that low if it an be avoided...

Re: 1999 Saturn SL2 - Rislone Block Seal (Head Gasket)

I think Protomartyr is saying he is getting down to ADD line (the yellow #1 in the attachment), not the FULL line (#2). If the oil drops below line 2, bring it up a little past that line

When I...

Re: another high mile

I think the early '99s had two doors - 3 door was a mid year change.

Gotta admire his optimism. $800k for a car with a half million miles. It might be worth it, but the problem is comparable...

Re: 2001 sc2 overheating, now it's not turning on

Agreed, there is the purge line that runs along the firewall, the surge tank, and some hoses underneath - a pinhole may be spraying the engine block when the system is pressurized.

Are you...

Re: 96 SC2 bringing it back to life (slowly)

Re: Saturn Craigslist Deal of the Day!

Good call - vin check shows it is a '97 model, built in '96.
Those wheels are so clean . . . and the headlights, omg, crystal clear :)

Super tempting . . .

Re: '02 Saturn SL1 upgrade advice wanted

Ooohhh, that's not good. You need to check your oil way more often and fill it as needed.

Right now, I'm driving about 35 miles a day, about 175 miles a week. I checked my oil Saturday - it was...

Re: Engine knocking sound

I think you meant "rebuild," not swap. :)

If swapping, no need to pull the harmonic balancer bolt.

I've pulled that bolt on two different engines with hand tools - just need to brace the...

^ ^ ^ good point, but some auto trans cars don't have a tach.

I always thought tachs were standard equipment but a I think a couple of my minivans didn't have tachs. It was a wtf moment for me :)...
