Re: 2002 SL-2: P0446 EVAP Code

Others have found that the code can be caused by a failed fuel tank pressure sensor. Tank has to be dropped to replace it. I had this code for years and chose not to repair it. In TX, a car can...

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor

The single wire unit is for the temperature gauge on the instrument panel. The 2 wire unit feeds temperature info to the PCM.

Re: Original Metal Exhaust Manifold Gasket

I pulled my exhaust manifold either 3 or 4 times (can't recall exactly) to clean air passages to get rid of the dreaded P0410 code. Reused the original gasket each time with no problems. I did...

Re: Highmile engine question

A fresh top end rebuild should get you to the million mile mark. Hope you have the opportunity to drive that much.

Re: Highmile engine question

That's a shame, but at least you didn't toast the engine. Still rooting for you to become the first million mile owner documented on this site!

Re: AC pressure numbers

The S series system takes 24 oz of refrigerant. That's 2 12 oz cans. If the system is properly evacuated and has the right amount of PAG oil in it, empty 2 cans and you are done. The second can...

Re: P0410 help please

Dentist tools or something similar to pick at baked on crud. The back of the manifold can be cleaned out with a screwdriver. Removing crud from the head is more time consuming.

Re: P0410 help please

When you look at the exhaust manifold gasket up against the head with the manifold removed, it will be fairly obvious where the air passages are. There are four, one feeding each exhaust port in the...

Re: P0410 help please

When you say the manifold has been cleaned out as far as you can discern, what does that mean? The exhaust manifold has to be removed from the engine to clean the air passages, and the four passages...

Re: P0446, EVAP solenoid.

I had this code for the final 2 years of my Saturn ownership. I replaced the vent valve and it did not help. Some here have suggested that the fuel tank pressure sensor goes bad and throws this...

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

I had the NGK direct fit front O2 sensor on my car - never tried the Bosch. When everything worked and was clean, I could go 2-3 years between P0410 events.

Re: Sudden sharp pull to right around curves/turns

Badly worn ball joints on a non-Saturn vehicle had a similar effect for me. Had to turn in the direction of the turn at the beginning, and then turn the other way to continue in the turn direction...

Re: 180K Day on Original Clutch

When I retired my Saturn it had 315k on the original clutch, and I always used it when shifting. Part of long life is technique. Part is that I live in a flat region of the country. Launch with as...

Re: Cylinder 3 misfire & Fuel in Oil

Welcome to the forum!

When these engines burn a valve, it is almost always in cylinder 3. A compression test will tell you if this may be the issue. A burned valve results in little or no...

Re: Sc2 still kills out

More information leads to more possibilities. If you check the fuel pressure while the car is misbehaving and it is very low, either the filter/regulator or the fuel pump is the likely culprit.

Re: Sc2 still kills out

Go to your local parts store and rent a fuel pressure gauge. Check the fuel pressure with key on, engine off, with engine running, and after shutting off the engine. Key on engine off and engine...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?

There are many folks here more clever than I am, and hopefully they will chime in with other ideas. Given the size of your fleet (if your signature list is of currently owned cars), swapping out the...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?

The only thing I can think of based on my years of reading this site is that there have been cases where the clunk of a failing serpentine belt tensioner is read as a knock by the knock sensor which...

Re: P303 code with exhaust smell

Options are few. The head needs to come off and be rebuilt or replaced with a rebuilt or used head.

Re: Should we keep our '02 Saturn?

Keep it if you can. You will not find a more DIY friendly vehicle in the current market unless you buy a restored classic.

Re: P303 code with exhaust smell

Cylinder 3 is the most common one to burn a valve on the DOHC engine. This results in a severe loss of compression in that cylinder with accompanying misfires. The compression test will tell you if...

Re: question about daytime running lights

What I was trying to say is that in my case, the failure of the indicator bulb did not affect the operation of my DRL's. They worked correctly for years after the indicator burned out.

DRL's worked normally on my 02 SC1 long after the green indicator bulb on the instrument panel burned out.

Re: Possible IAC issue with idling

When my IACV died, the idle was around 500 rpm - just barely staying running. This was because the valve was no longer opening. Your 3000 psi idle was just the PCM getting to know the new IACV. ...
