Re: 94 S trans issues, helping elderly neighbor

I think there is a clue there in your observation that it seems to get "stuck" in 3rd or 4th at times. That sounds like it has lost electrical control and is operating only on the manual hydraulic...

Re: Chirping sound from Crankshaft Pulley

Agreed, I wouldn't run it for long with the pulley off. That lower chain sprocket would be working back-and-forth on the key.

Re: Chirping sound from Crankshaft Pulley

I can't hear the noise in either video.

Yes, you can run the engine for a short while with the pulley off, some oil will come out, but it is notunder pressure; you won't be lowering pressure to...

Re: 94 S trans issues, helping elderly neighbor

Central Valve Bodies, near Tulsa OK. That 14V is OK.

Re: Chirping sound from Crankshaft Pulley

Well, it seems like we have to grab our flashlights and head down the same rabbit-hole again. Bear with me if I ask some of the same questions again, ones you may have already given info on.

Is...

Re: Chirping sound from Crankshaft Pulley

I think there was one conclusion that can be drawn from that old thread: noises are very hard to track down. Did you noticed that the noise in that thread seemingly moved from one end of the engine...

Re: 94 sl1 intermittent starting problems...not what you think

The screw in a battery side-terminal won't tighten properly? Sounds like it is stripped from over-tightening. I suppose a helical insert may work there, but I would be incline to use a "reducer...

Yep, I saw that you tested further and clarified that after I posted.

Re: PCV valve and "catch can"

Oh, my can was deep and big enough, a quart jar about 5-6" high, but there was nothing in it. After that I used the clear tube for a while, still got pretty much nothing.

So where is the oil in...

Re: No start mystery

Since this is OBD2, live-data is easy to get. Use that to avoid a lot of guessing or parts-swapping.

Re: PCV valve and "catch can"

Before you go to the trouble of doing that, replace the existing hose from the PCV valve to manifold with a piece of clear hose, see how much oil is actually going through there. Use a fairly long...

Re: 2000 sw 2 keeps blowing ecm

What do you mean by "cranks hard"? Does the cranking suddenly slow, like it is struggling to get past the compression stroke? Vapor-lock won't do that, it only cuts off the fuel supply, and it not...

Re: No start mystery

The PCM is the ground for injectors. Do I understand correctly, both wires on an injector have 12V relative to ground with key-on, but both stay at 12V when the engine is cranked? (With harness...

Re: No start mystery

I'm getting confused: the original post said there was fuel pressure, but no spark. Then, in post #5 the OP says there is spark, but "need fuel", so is jumpering the pump. I need consistent info...

Re: No start mystery

You have no spark, but how about injector pulses and does the fuel pump come back on when cranking? Simple checks to verify if the CKP sensor is, or is not, the problem. Let's get past that one...

Re: SL1 starter solenoid

And, it may not be the solenoid (contacts or other). You would get the same symptom if the starter brushes were bad. A few voltage checks down there can confirm specifically which is bad.

Re: Reaching my wits end.

I'm seeing several clues that the TB blade is sticking from crud in there. Get a gasket and clean the TB properly. Frankly, you can often re-use the TB gasket and avoid even the small cost/effort...

Re: 94 sc2 difficult to start in cold weather

Back-probe the ECT connector (with the sensor connected) and tell us what the voltage is between the to wires when the engine is hard to start. Better yet would be to back-probe those two wires at...

Thanks, that # worked. I appreciate your "best wishes", but changing those pumps is an elementary job; should be no problems.

Re: Smog Tech thinks it might be the Converter.

I always have to get tests at a STAR, but my newest vehicle (not a Saturn) is 20 yrs old. With a good cat, passing is no problem; even with my high-mile oil burners. Readings are well under the...

Re: what is this under the dash?

DB stocks SoCal quite near Carmichael, CA; no need for even expedited shipping. I got mine in NorCal in just two days with the free shipping.
