Re: 2000 SL Wheel bearings - Need grease?

Yes, that one is a blast. I don't remember the holes being elongated, but the steering wheel is just the slightest bit off now. I'll probably just take it in and have it aligned soon.

Re: 2000 SL Wheel bearings - Need grease?

Got this done today, really wasn't a bad job. Instead of separating the knuckle and the strut, I removed the three bolts that secure the strut plate to the body and pulled the whole assembly out....

Re: Changing a Front Hub/Bearing on an S-Series (with pictures)

I don't see a reasonable way that one could press all the parts in/out without removing knuckle and certainly with less effort than removing the knuckle.

Re: 2000 SL Wheel bearings - Need grease?

I am in Spokane Valley, WA. I am planning to do both sides at the same time and I will also be replacing the brakes.

Got most of it apart tonight. Just need to get the knuckle free of the ball...

Re: 2000 SL Wheel bearings - Need grease?

I think you are right, looks like a sealed unit to me. Guess I could have just had a look at the replacement part! Thanks!

2000 SL Wheel bearings - Need grease?

Hi guys,

Planning to change the front wheel bearings in my 2000 SL1 5spd this weekend. I recalled that when I used to do front wheel bearings in old RWD cars we had to pack the bearings with...

Re: Saturn SL2 will not start. Perhaps starter issues?

Starter solenoid or cables is where I would start. Check and clean both ends of all the battery cables. If that doesn't do it, I'd pull the starter and get it tested. You can usually buy rebuild kits...

Re: Clutch Replacement Checklist

Can you elaborate why the one for the 99 is better?

So one with a 2000 Saturn SOHC should buy the LUK listed here:
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1999/saturn/sl1/clutch/clutch_kit.html

and...

Re: Clutch Replacement Checklist

Also the instructions mention replacing the shift tower gasket. I can't seem to find this gasket on RockAuto - does anyone have a source or do you use RTV?

Re: Clutch Replacement Checklist

Could you elaborate on the pressure plat from the 2nd gen? Did you just buy the clutch kit for the 2nd gen? Which year?

Re: 2000 SL clutch engagement

Thank you both for the advice. I drive up a steep hill every day and usually start out in 5th gear at about 40mph. The clutch does not slip and when the engine slows too much I will shift into fourth...

Re: 2000 SL clutch engagement

Because of mileage or because it only grabs at the end of travel?

2000 SL clutch engagement

Hi guys. I bought a 2000 SL1 5spd a few weeks ago. I noticed the clutch doesn't grab until the clutch pedal is fully up. There is 'some' engagement as the pedal comes up (enough to slip the clutch...

Re: Poor a/c performance ONLY at idle

You can check out RockAuto for the parts. Sorry, I don't know enough about AC to help you.

Re: harmonic balancer wont come off need suggestions

Try having someone put a wrench on one of the flywheel bolts and holding that while you hit the other side with a wrench and cheater. You will need to get creative to get it off.

Re: 2000 SC1 - Any Known Issues?

My understanding is that oil consumption is normal for these motors. I would ask how many miles per quart, since a quart a month is subjective to how much driving he actually does.

2000 SL1 wheel bearing

Hi everyone. I just bought a 2000 SL1 with 131,000 miles. When driving straight and above ~35mph there is a distinct loud noise - it almost sounds like the car has a fart cannon muffler. When I turn...

Re: Help my Saturn sl2 just broke down :-(

I suppose if you didn't have enough fuel for it to run its possible. There's usually a schraeder valve (a tire valve) on the fuel rail. If you press the valve and fuel sprays out (into a rag you have...
