Re: Proud new member of a near mint 1999 Homecoming Edition

Neat!

Always great to see an original owner, too. Your wife counts because she bought it off the lot, even though it went to someone else for a while - the car made its own "homecoming" and is...

Re: S-Series Mileage Milestones 100k 150k 200k 250k and beyond

That in itself if impressive - only 2,500 miles a year!

I went over 150k miles on the SC2 a couple of days ago. I usually keep the odometer on trip mileage so I missed the event. Engine feels...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

My exhaust mod added 500 hp :D

I really did do some crappy "good enough for the winter, maybe" exhaust work this weekend.

But nothing like the thing below (ran across it on reddit)

Re: Diff pin questions

Total luck of the draw, IMO. I've seen stories where the poster claims they've never spun the wheels or launched hard, were just cruising along the highway, and the diff pin decides to abandon ship....

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

I also used the Permatex a year or two ago, when I did mine.

I also used it a week or so ago - I have a leather cell phone holster and belt clip tore off when I caught it on something, getting...

Re: So...someone "borrowed" my wheel

lol. I always knew crime did pay but never thought of it being win-win :D

Trunk fix is pretty easy - remove panels and reseal, or drill enough small holes to let the water out (and paint the bare...

Re: How to pull the engine?

Apparently, after you've done it enough times, you can pull an engine in an hour or so :D

Of course, OP and Low Saturn aren't dealing...

Re: How can 2019 cars be as good as my SW2?

No personal experience either, but some years ago, spoke with a coworker who had driven his wife's Prius for the first time. He said he was very impressed by how it handled in the snow, apparently...

Re: Stainless Steel muffler, or maybe not....

I had the same issue with a Walker SS muffler a while back on my '98 . . . got to thinking that it was due to a combination of different metals (muffler and strap) in constant contact (galvanic...

Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

Nice work there, trottida, with a great explanation and pics :)

I think of the AC condenser as a "radiator for the AC unit" (which is why I was not connecting it with "filter") - hot AC...

Congrats on the quarter-million mark!

As to "guns on cars," there's a relevant XKCD What If:

Re: light that indicates low coolant is coming on lately

I've done a couple of radiator replacements and I cant recall any filters. There's a foam piece along the top.

There's pictures in this thread, not sure if they will help?

when you change the position knob, does it feel like there is no resistance? It might be that the loop at the end of the control cable has slipped off the white, plastic, split cone behind the...

Re: Would replacing my air filter improve my mpg?

+1

The "dirty air filter costs you x mpg" comes from the carburetor age, when carbs where calibrated for a certain amount of air coming in, and gets repeated every year by newspapers repeating the...

Re: Coolant Tank Cap blew off 2000 SW2

I heard that Chrysler gave out license plate covers in the High Mileage club at 100k miles but the program was discontinued. Too popular?

My Chrysler products had/have about 205k miles, 240k...

Re: Possible leaking heater core?

Coolant flows through the heater core at all times when the engine is running, so the core itself was leaking, it is always leaking. you might only smell it at certain times because it is a very slow...

Re: Coolant Tank Cap blew off 2000 SW2

A lot of excellent points and information as always, but I'll take exception to this, at least in regards to the S-series :)

I guess it depends on your definition of "almost forever" :arr:

Re: Coolant Tank Cap blew off 2000 SW2

It's not supposed to overflow at all. It is a closed system and the cap should form a seal that is good up until about 15 PSI, IIRC. If system pressure exceeds 15 PSI, then a spring will allow...

Re: Coolant Tank Cap blew off 2000 SW2

Just a guess, but started off with a loose/ bad cap (causing the original coolant loss), and adding the Bars copper did something hat caused overheating and the cap to blow off.
