Re: 2001 SW2 hesitation
Did you notice a good puff of black soot when you did that? If not, it might be blocked enough that you need to run something like the old odometer cable to break up the blockage. The "start with...

Re: New SL2 Owner, high idle speed-
I don't recall seeing one brand of aftermarket TPS being mentioned as consistently better/ reliable.
I did some searching when I bought mine and purchased the one that seemed most recommended -...

Re: New SL2 Owner, high idle speed-
Did you loosen and re-tighten the two nuts (Strut-bracket to cradle)on the engine strut, beneath the car? See madpogue's links on this thread

Re: 2001 SW2 hesitation
Does the EGR pintle move freely?
Have you cleaned out the EGR passage? Blockage can occur anywhere from the exhaust manifold ports up to the EGR. Look up "old odometer cable trick" here. Some...

Re: New SL2 Owner, high idle speed-
Congrats on getting a nice, low mileage car.
Edit: I would do top engine mount first, transmission fluid second, TPS third, and exhaust last.
But frankly, they can all be done over a weekend...

Re: Coil packs on 1998 Saturn SL2. Any body know?
Are your plugs "fouled" with carbon, or wet with gas?
A lot of 1997s had an issue where the system pressure decayed too quickly (fuel drained back to the tank). They'd start their cars by turning...

TSN = Turbo Saturns?
That was before my time but I recall seeing a few dead links to them, when I first joined Saturnfans. Kinda wondered what happened . . . just figured they vanished from lack...

Re: Spam
I sent Charlie an email.
The "first post requires approval" works but suffers from the same issue that the current spammers aren't being removed - needs a human to do the work.
I don't have...

+1, post in the model-specific forums.
You coolant level sensor is a simple float, located in the surge tank (some folks call it the reservoir) located on the passenger inside fender.

Re: 97 SL2, passing CA smog? Sensor replacements
If your P0341 code hasn't come back, you fixed it. If it does come back, try new wires like focusofheart mentioned. 1 & 4 should run parallel most of their length - the car came with wire looms to...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
OK, thanks - will try and remember that if they go bad. I think most people said that spark improvements generally didn't do much but a few swore by their upgraded systems (using the butt dyno, IIRC...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
This mod is a new one on me. Any GM 3.1 will work, and I assume you pull the first two packs only? Might be interesting to try sometime. Did you see any benefit from the mod?

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
I thought you were saying there was only one number on each tower. I've seen several pics where someone had hand-painted in white a number on the coil packs.
Those numbers in your picture make...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
Yes, which is why it may run fine with certain wires switched.
You'll sometimes see it referred to as DIS (distributor-less ignition system) and waste-spark is a variation of DIS. It'll fire...

Re: Spark Plug Wires Firing Order
Wires in the engine are 1-2-3-4
Connect to coil packs in 4-1-2-3
Read this post - particularly #8. Pretty sure if you have numbers written on coilpacks, someone added them. I haven't looked...

Re: Annual Angst
Michigan has the highest insurance rates in the nation, last I checked.
I've paid more to insure my Saturns than I paid to buy and maintain them :)
(and I just carry the most basic insurance,...
