Re: what year engine should I look for to replace '98 DOhc

While your car is a GEN2 (96-99) there were changes in 98 and 99 that is resulting in the car-part.com saying it is a unique year. In 98 the fuel system was changed to returnless and in 99 the head...

Re: S-Series Spot and Shot

I'd get some POR15 on that oil pan before you start getting pin hole leaks. It's looking pretty close now.

On my 99 SL2 I was able to seal pin hole leaks with a few coats of POR15 and some...

Re: Water on floors and in trunk

That gurgling water noise at the base of the windshield is likely cavitation in the heater core. The movement of coolant through the heater core elbow and small vapour bubbles makes a noise. It's...

Re: Running hotter after tune up

It depends on the climate you live in. If you are in a warm/moderate climate I'd go with the cooler one. If you are in a climate that sees cold weather then I'd go with the warmer one. You'll get...

Re: Running hotter after tune up

Thermostats usually fail open resulting in low temperature; 1/4 or less on the gauge. The typical operating temperature for a GEN2 would be below 3/8th on the gauge. Your observed temperature...

Re: Auto to manual swap & cruise control

So does anybody have any other points of failure that can be checked out?

Re: and so it begins....

I think the official statement is 1.5 us gallons or 5.7 liters rather than mileage.

Re: I fixed my cruise control!!! Damn Service bulb blown on cluster! 99 SL2

I just posted that TSB a couple days ago. There is a link to it in my post here >> http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2353721&postcount=6

One note that the TSB is dated 1996 but this...

Re: and so it begins....

So I'm guessing I have a problem at the fuel tank end then; a sensor or something. It seems to be a common GEN2 issue from what I have read. I'll have to see if there is a solution documented...

Re: Siphon gas problems

I think you can disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter and use the fuel pump to drain it too. I recall reading that. Just be mindful of the power draw on the battery; maybe hook jumper cables...

Re: and so it begins....

I put 44.611 liters (11.785 US Gal) of gas in the 99 SL2 today. The tank holds 45.80348 (12.1 US Gal). Still no low fuel light and a rather stressful drive. The fuel light bulb does work, I see it...

Re: Auto to manual swap & cruise control

It was originally a 98 SL1 AT and the engine, transmission and PCM was swapped in from a 96 SL2 MT**. CC worked but due to other issues he swapped in my 99 SL2 AT PCM (left over from my MT swap). ...

Re: Auto to manual swap & cruise control

I may have solved this. Awaiting confirmation from the owner once he re-installs the Service Engine light bulb (wrench) which was removed prior to the 99 PCM being swapped in. The previous PCM was...

Re: Auto to manual swap & cruise control

Thanks. So that thread ends with your though that it works only in 5th gear due to the similar gear ratios. Modpogue thinks that it works because the electronic clutch position switch in not built...

Auto to manual swap & cruise control

Just throwing this out there for discussion.

When swapping auto to manual in a GEN2 DOHC and using the DOHC AT PCM, do you lose cruise control? I've read that the AT ECU works however you get...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

There are plenty of parts available as the Astra is a global car and there are millions sold. You have to order from over seas though and you need to be able to cross reference part numbers (from...

Re: which wheel bearing/hub assembly brand to order

I've seen that too however it is not consistent. The next Timken hub/bearing assembly I bought had Made in China stamped on it.

Re: Kick panel removal

There are clips, you just have to get under it and pop them off. It's best to get your pry as close to the clip as possible so you don't break or bend anything. Once off there is a rubber boot you...

Re: S-Series Spot and Shot

I believe that is a 2001 10th Anniversary Edition. Bright Silver SL2 with black badges, teardrop wheels and a rear spoiler.

Re: Water on floors and in trunk

I used acoustic caulking; it remains flexible for some time and I happened to have an open tube. It is messy to work with.

Re: 1997 SW2 Rear wheel bearing replacement

SKF bearings is my choice. They sometimes supply Timken but it is not consistent. I've purchased Timken front bearing hub assemblies and one time got SKF bearings and other times got Made in China....

Re: New to me 1994 SL2 Homecoming Edition couple questions?

You have to install it from the top as it is larger than the headliner cutout. You can raise the sunroof to the vent position and slide it in then you have to align it to the track and retract the 4...
