Re: Ride the clutch in reverse

Did some testing in an empty lot. That reverse gear is STEEP. When the clutch is fully out just the slightest tap on the gas really gives it to you. It wasn't really possible to cruise at a slow...

Ride the clutch in reverse

Anyone else never fully let off their clutch while in reverse? Even when I reverse uphill into my driveway I always find that letting off the clutch entirely is overkill. I generally take it to about...

Re: Dealer left my car in neutral w/o e-brake

It was a night pickup about 20 minutes before closing. They normally pull the car around for you, but I saw it out front and said I'd get it myself. I wouldn't have know it had been sitting around...

Re: Dealer left my car in neutral w/o e-brake

Did you have nothing better to do than complain about my post? Something I would define as interesting happened and I shared. Give yourself a cookie and consider why you feel the need to be a surly...

Dealer left my car in neutral w/o e-brake

After dropping my (manual transmission) car off for state inspection I got my keys from the desk and went outside. When I opened my car I found that it was in neutral and the parking brake was not...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

Fdryer, again, stop putting words in my mouth

I haven't argued FOR double-clutching in this thread, I asked ABOUT it and the differences with simple rev-matching. You are trying your...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

I'm confused... who is arguing for double-clutching? All I asked about was what happened inside the tranny when you do it. Later on someone mentioned letting the revs drop to idle and not gearing...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

"Just Drive"? Consider the following:

Instead of downshifting you let your car's revs drop down when you are slowing down like one poster said he does. What happens when you need to accelerate?...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

Double-clutching is not necessary for synchronized transmissions, but there are a handful of good reasons to do it anyway if you are so inclined. And this has thread has nothing to do with Fast and...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

I'm familiar with this technique as well, and I frequently drop into neutral without the clutch when coming to a final stop (the tranny will let the shift lever fall out of gear without resistance at...

Re: Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

If you were to drop it into neutral and use only the brakes to come to a stop, the engine will use gas in order to maintain idle speed and you'll put some wear on the brake pads.

If you engine...

Smooth Shifts (Rev matching / Double Clutching)

So I have a question for those familiar with the inner workings of a synchronized manual transmission. All of us manual drivers love smooth shifts and we like knowing what our car is doing exactly so...

Get those stock wiper blades off!

Just replaced my stock wiper blades with Rain-X Latitudes. Never figured what a difference decent blades would make! I got tired of the stock blades skipping, chattering, squeaking, and leaving...

Re: Dealer wants almost $600 to replace bad radio!? 2004 ION 2

I have a 2004 Ion2 that I replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket one. I will sell you mine for a reasonable price. That helps you out, and it gets it out of my closet :)

Re: Turn off your wipers!

How hard would it be to have a clutch that slips when the wipers are blocked? Or any other simple engineering solution to that problem. Common problems should be engineered around, not ignored and...
