Re: Help Figure Out if Bad Head Gasket

Have you taken compression readings yet? Generally, oil on the top side of the plug threads can't get down into the combustion chamber. That liquid oil is probably just flowing down as you remove...

Re: Does my 2000 SW2 have ABS

Have you checked to see if the brake push-rod is still connected to the pedal lever/arm? It is hard to imagine there is a big leak if the MC is staying full, but have you checked all over for leaks...

Re: Does my 2000 SW2 have ABS

Yes, you can tell by looking, and that "silver box behind the battery" is a pretty good description of an ABS module. I don't have a picture handy, but somebody else will point you to one if there...

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder Problems.

There is a variant to that cartoon: the guy is correctly yanking on the handle with both hands, but has one foot up planted in the middle of the door to brace himself as he pulls.

Re: sc2 wont start, how to jump starter from relay?

Use a voltmeter to avoid a whole lot of guessing and parts-swapping.

Smoke from an electrical system is a strong hint of problems beyond just a bad relay or starter.

Re: '95 SL2 needs saving

I'm begging now. I really don't want to see this good-running car get scrapped. Convince me it is "going to a good home" and make an offer; I'll go pretty low.

Re: Trans. range sensor adjustment

You are talking about TAAT (auto trans)? I never take anything off to get to the range switch on the gen1; not sure about your year...

Re: Overheated & STOPPED !

Try rotating the crank by hand, to be sure it hasn't seized from the over-heat. That is not a likely problem, but it is very easy to try rotating the engine; no use throwing a new radiator at it if...

Re: SL1 TAAT transmission mystery

Where did you get the VB from?

Go back to the beginning and use live-data to avoid most of this guessing. Also, connect a gauge to observe line-pressure.

The next time you have the VB off, do...

Re: 1996 sl2 - 2 New exhaust replacements and both have flange the wrong rotation

I would be wary of trying from another vendor and hoping for a perfect fit. I have three nearly-identical DOHC engines ('94, '95, and '97 in '95 car) and the clocking of that flange needs to be...

'95 SL2 needs saving

This is to bring attention to my recent post in the "Classifieds".

I live in NorCal, and as I get ready to "thin out my herd" CA will give me $1000 to have it scrapped. I don't really want to see...

Re: Automatic transmission on the fritz when warm

Is this car new to you, or is this a new problem? Post the actual code numbers.

If the car is new to you, check the S/N on the trans, let's make sure it is the correct version for your...

Re: Transmission End Cover - Am I missing something?

The picture of the inside of the cover is clear enough, but the other doesn't tell me much. It is "zoomed in" (and blurry) enough that I can't tell what I'm looking at.

Regardless, both those...

Re: Transmission End Cover - Am I missing something?

Post pictures showing the inside of the cover, and what is still there exposed on the trans.

Re: 2002 Saturn SL Spring special Fuel issues?

And, use a fuel pressure gauge with a hose long enough that you can watch FP while driving and the engine is having problems. Use live-data to check most all else. Pay particular attention to the...

Re: 01 sc2 automatic rad question

Use pieces of metal (aluminum) duct tape; both Lowe's and Home Depot stock it. That stuff is good for a lot of purposes, the rest of the roll needn't go to waste.

I gotta ask... why do you care...

Re: No Reverse Lights

Still, check that the shift cables may not be the problem; manually push the shift lever(s) on the trans to the detented R position. Also, I would sure manually check the new switch, too.

Re: No Reverse Lights

OP, didn't you already try jumpering the harness connector (at the switch) with the welding-wire; didn't the lights work doing that? Yeah, try the new switch manually. Be wary too of the connector...

Re: No Reverse Lights

If you remove the switch from the trans and depress the plunger manually, do the lights work? If so, yeah, either the tower or the cable; possibly the R fork is moving enough to engage R, but not...

Re: 97 SL2 Very Low Power, feels like I am towing a semi trailer??

I wasn't surprised to hear removing the O2 sensor wasn't a reliable diagnostic. That 18mm tapped hole isn't really much for an "exhaust pipe"

However, I was surprised that the cat seemed to be OK...

Re: Transmission Leak looks like seal.

What kind of trans, manual or auto? Where does it seem to be leaking from, an axle or bell-housing?

Yeah, I would keep away from stop-leak. It isn't as horrible in a trans as in A/C, but it only...

Re: 97 SL2 Very Low Power, feels like I am towing a semi trailer??

Block the EGR ports, to be sure it is "closed". No joy? Then, use live-data to avoid throwing more parts at it. Do I understand correctly that it seems to run OK when cold? I don't think either...

Re: Successfully replaced the starter, but...

Whoa, we need the OP to clarify which wires were connected. There are actually three wires, one small one and one big one go to the large terminal. The third wire is also small (probably PPL color)...

Re: Successfully replaced the starter, but...

The big terminal on the starter has two wires attached to it; a large wire going to the battery and a small wire going to the alternator. Did you get both back on?

Having the battery disconnected...
