Re: What's got two thumbs and just bought himself a 1999 SW1?

That's awesome - I'm looking for something like this to do a retirement drive through the southern US this winter. Sleep in the back type trip. If the airconditioning works, I might be interested ;)

Re: steering wheel/tyrod seems very shaky when traveling on gravel road

I've driven my Saturn on gravel roads since I bought it used in 2008, no issues. Nothing squirrely, no loss of control

Re: Hum/roar from front driver's side wheel area 2001 SC2 manual

13 years ago, I had a reputable mechanic here tell me my hum was the intermediate shaft. I sourced one, he replaced it, and the hum was still there. It did eventually turn out to be a wheel bearing....

Re: New Ethanol standard?

It's sad we are so far down this path we are on that nothing they do can actually fix the system we have now.

More ethanol means less arable land for food, means food prices increase. More ethanol...

Re: and so it begins....

I had an old Dodge pickup truck when I was in college with a wonky starter. I parked on a slight incline so I could let it roll and start it each morning, until I finally could afford to change the...

Re: Used S Series Prices

Not really price related, but yesterday I took my Saturn in for a brake line replacement. The mechanics helper was younger than the car. He was thrilled by the plastic panels, and the suicide door....

Re: Quick Checklist for better gas mileage?

I find the thing that really upsets the virtue signalers in their teslas is to simply and completely not make eye contact with them. They get annoyed when they don't get attention

Re: If The S-Series Was Around Today

My favorite feature...besides the awesome mileage and reliability.

I imagine with all the current safety requirements and the need to be "luxurious and noticed" a current Saturn would weigh in an...

Re: New shifter cable

My 2000 was a press in. The aftermarket cables were a bolt in. When the aftermarkets failed after 10k, I found another Saturn press in set at a JY, but can't remember the year of the donor car. I was...

Re: Ten Years on a $1,500.00 Used Car

I bought my 2000 SC1 in 2008, thinking I'd have a daily driver for a couple of years, then sell it. 14 years later and she is still beetling along like a trooper.

3rd gear synchros are gone, but...

Re: Can you tell without lifting it' s leg?

Quite possibly...either he looked underneath and thought" wow, I can't sell this" or he thought if the guy wants these pics, maybe he knows more about these cars and I can't pull a quick one

Re: New shifter cable

The 96 cables will work fine. The rubber boot/bellows I used was a replacement for a steering cable off of a boat:

It was too long so I...

Re: New shifter cable

Yeah, the aftermarket shift cables are junk. I think there are many threads on here stating that. I replaced mine with aftermarket (ATP, bought from amazon) and they barely lasted 10K km's before...

Re: Diff pin concerns

Thanks - trying to get the car out of the snowdrift was probably the hardest thing I put it through in the last 5 years...Hoping that one simple snow incident didn't shorten the life of the ol' gal....

Diff pin concerns

Hey folks - had some heavy 18" snow drifts in my driveway yesterday and managed to get stuck - 20 feet from my garage. Had to rock it back and forth a few times, and some serious wheel spinning.

Re: No heat

I can vouch for the SOHC throwing poor heat. Did thermostat (twice) checked ducting, heater core, all the usual suspects. Nada.

I cut a pool noodle to fit the front bumper opening and its better,...

Re: Ever Seen One?

My first gen Mazda Miata had a factory one on the drivers side wiper. Actually made the wiper track way worse. I ended up removing it years ago.

Re: Sluggish Shifter

Hi there - the shifter operates with 2 cables through the firewall to the transmission, one for up and down (1-2, 3-4, etc), the other for side to side. They have rubber boots covering the end of the...
