Re: stripped and broken bolts on rear brakes, what now?

Well, the easy out failed, so I ended up with a new caliper bracket for 35 bucks. At least the caliper was ok. I had tried a flare wrench on it, but was afraid it was starting to strip. The socket...

Re: stripped and broken bolts on rear brakes, what now?

Thanks for the replies! The Irwin bolt out, with some heat and a 2' cheater pipe worked like a charm, but it didn't give up easy. I was still using the cheater until it was about halfway out. Does...

Re: stripped and broken bolts on rear brakes, what now?

I meant to say upper caliper bracket bolt, too late to edit again.

Re: stripped and broken bolts on rear brakes, what now?

Thanks for the reply. I didn't have a craftsman 10mm so I used one from the parts store, which split and rounded the bolt head. :dizzy: The part that I'm talking about is what the caliper bracket...

stripped and broken bolts on rear brakes, what now?

Trying to get the caliper bracket off, I stripped both bolt heads, as well as snapped off one caliper pin in the bracket. How do I get the hub off (I'm guessing it's the hub, right?) to get these...

Re: Can't pass inspection, no power at data link?

Thanks for the replies! The fuse is good, the pin 4 ground is good, and the pin 16 12V is good, so I guess I'm off to a different shop. Hopefully I won't get a ticket this time! :hothead:

Can't pass inspection, no power at data link?

I failed my state inspection today, due to there being no power at the data link, which is required to hook up to the computer that authorizes the inspection. Using an OBD-II scanner works, showing...

Re: 98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

I wanted to post a follow-up to my issues. We eventually ran out of things to test, so we decided to throw a used PCM at it, since it was only $50, which didn't work, then tried an ignition module,...

Re: 98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

Thanks again for the good advice, that's what we'll pursue Monday and I'll report back when we know something.

Re: 98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

That's a good point, I'll ask him about blowing out the remaining fuel before putting the plugs back in. He asked me about the fuel pressure regulator, and I remembered we had replaced the fuel...

Re: 98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

I can't find the thread right now, but it went over how to diagnose the "cam sensor" codes. We went through that, the wires tested with proper resistance, but we tried different ones anyway, to no...

Re: 98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

I should have posted that we double checked the ECTS to be sure we had replaced it, and it was replaced with a new brass tipped one from saturn, as well as the connector/wires. I forgot to post that...

98 SC2 running poorly, dumping gas

I had my 98 SC2 sit at my mechanic's shop for a couple months while I tried to find a used header downpipe. After it sat, it was running really poorly, barely running at all. We replaced the coil...

downpipe/flexpipe woes

About 1.5 years ago I crunched the downpipe on my 98 on a curb I didn't see. Trying to have it replaced with anything from the parts store didn't work; none of them fit. I had a 91/92 header but no...

Re: Whats trans fluid does everyone use in their manual trans?

Mobil 1 ATF, for no reason other than that a lot of people suggested it. Supposedly the tranny shifts smoother, but I've never actually been able to do a comparison.

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

Does anyone have a preferred faster for the speakers? Prior owner tossed all the factory fastners and apparently just had the front speakers sitting loose in the doors. The hardware store can't...

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

Sweet, I have one of my speakers in and it works great. Of course, prior owner had cut out the stock speaker connectors so I couldn't use my nice speaker wires from Crutchfield. I just did a basic...

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

I was thinking the same, while I was thanking my lucky stars the the prior owner had left enough wires uncut for me to (hopefully) deduce the correct position for each wire.

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

Yay, the chime fuse was blown! :D Now, not only does the chime work, but the tape player shows the time, powers up and accepts a cassette.

No audio (I did check my tape and it was playing music...

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

Thanks, that does give me the idea that I can test the yellow and orange for voltage in key off/on. Since the display doesn't show a time on it, maybe something is going on there.

I just tried...

Re: Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

Checked the fuse, it was good, also was a 10 amp, so I replaced it with a 5 amp as specified on the cover.

As I recall, enough of the like-colored wires were still in the harness that I'm as sure...

Dizzy Help troubleshooting stereo wiring 92 SC & will a 98 stereo work?

The previous owner of my 92 SC really did a job on the stereo wiring, mostly cutting out the stock harness to, I'm guessing, install an aftermarket stereo. I took a stock harness out of another 92...
