Re: Car randomly dies if I accelerate too hard

If you don't have your own OBD II code reader, go to your local parts store and get them to pull the code(s). Don't ask for their diagnosis - they just want to sell you stuff. Post back here with...

Re: Driving on Ice

With the vast majority of Houston drivers having no experience with driving on ice, it is best to just stay home until it warms up a bit. That being said, I agree the generalities being spewed by...

Re: PDL Fuse has blown twice.

Nice body work. Makes me think my rust free hooptie would be worth a lot up your way!

Re: 1997 SL2 runs for exactly 5 minutes, then dies?

When it dies, pull the plug wires off the coils and have someone crank the engine while you look for sparks jumping between the coil towers. If no sparks, crank position sensor is suspect.

Re: ball joint removal

I've had success driving a wedge between the top of the stud and the driveshaft. Nut should be flush with top of stud. Not ideal, but it worked for me, with no ill effects 100 k miles later.

Re: 98 sl2 not turning over

How old is the starter? Was the engine warm when the no crank occurred? These starters tend to announce their impending failure with a no crank when hot episode.

A clutch switch that fails to...

Re: Torque strut engine mount

Think we are getting the mounts confused. Sad refers to the "frowny" style top mount which is a POS. The photos you provide are for what is often referred to as dogbones. Those in the picture...

Re: Trans mount dog bone bracket?

For the lower dogbone, disconnect the top mount from the frame and jack up the engine a bit. Just did this last weekend.

Re: message to Charlie

I received a PM recently from someone trying to sell OBD II scanners. The only emails I ever get from Saturnfans are PM notifications and a happy birthday greeting. I don't think your email address...

Re: Thermostat Issue?

Based on a sample size of 1 (my 2002 SOHC), what you are observing is normal. My car runs at about 5/16 of the gauge in the summer and at 1/4 in the winter. Heat is adequate. The third gen gauge...

Re: Front End 'Growl" When Turning Right -- Mount?

Your Saturn engine has four mounts:
1. Torque axis mount (upper mount). This is the one at the passenger end of the engine, visible from above.
2. Transaxle mount. Under the transaxle.
3. Upper...

Re: How smooth are manual trannies and clutches?

Mine shifts just fine also. Moderate throws, but accurate. Third gens have a softer clutch pedal. Some like it, some don't.

Re: Reoccurring p037 and p410 codes

In the SOHC engine, the injected air has to flow through four small holes in the head. These holes get plugged up and the air can't reach the exhaust stream, setting the code. If you did not drill...

Re: New S-Series Owner - 2002 SL2

Note that you have the composite cam cover which is prone to warping. Check that it is still flat when it is removed for gasket swap.

Re: New S-Series Owner - 2002 SL2

Those are some tired looking plugs. The oil is often from a leaking cam cover gasket. Were the plug wells full of oil? If so, plan on changing the gasket soon.

Re: Tire rubbing strut when braking

What tire size are you running? I have 15" steel wheels on my SC1 with 195/60R-15 tires and never had a rubbing issue.

Re: Noise

^+1. Sounds like a motor mount issue. A failed dogbone mount can make the same noise as the upper mount. Check them all.

Re: Please help. Car acts up after reaching normal operating temp.

Another possibility is a clogged catalytic converter. When mine plugged, the car would run great until the temperature needle got close to normal operating temperature, after which is ran horribly...

Re: Time for me to say goodbye to my SL2 soon . . .

Glad you got it fixed. I've had P0410 and P0446 active all summer, but choose to ignore them for now. Car is inspected through April 2018, and I expect I'll retire it permanently before then.

Re: 2001 SL2 w/automatic- chirping noise from oil pan bell housing area

Re: No power to air pump

Power to the air pump is present for only 30 - 60 seconds after cold start when the system is working properly.
