Re: (Sarcoxiechick ) Manual transmission trouble - '98 SL2

Pretty sure you have 3 main options, not counting internal transmission failure of some kind:

Clutch Slipping
Hydraulics Failed
CV Axle broke in half (not likely for a '91-'99 because they...

Re: armrest install?

They wern't made of the best plastic back in the day and it's only gotten worse from then.

Pretty much any S-Series model '95-'99 *could* have the extended arm rest in them that would work for...

Re: Best Tires for Handling & Rain Traction? - '98 SC2

My experience says for wet traction you want more of a "V" pattern than the typical 2-4 rain grooves the tire media wants us to think is amazing.
My first experience with this phenominum was with...

Re: Manual to power steering swap? JY SC2 suspension? Straightforward?

Everyone claims that, yet when I tried to put a NV7 pump on a '97 SC1 I had to swap the bracket to the engine as well because NONE of the bolt holes lined up with the pump...they were all either...

or a pair of those 9005's and a pair of these 9006's...

Re: Manual to power steering swap? JY SC2 suspension? Straightforward?

It's a 2 wire sensor, bat & ground. Give it a 5a or under feed and manually switch the ground. Should be easy to cut off the pigtail when you're taking the pump. I don't know what it actually...

Re: overhead consoles?

You can't get outside air temp with a inside sensor...what good is a inside temp sensor when it's not controlling the HVAC?

You can take a rearview mirror from '99-'02 Silverado (and I assume...

Re: Manual to power steering swap? JY SC2 suspension? Straightforward?

SL default option was a manual steering rack.
SL1/SC1/SW1/SWP only option was power steering with no "off" setting. 0mph or 70mph...you have FULL power assist 100% of the time...

Re: 99 SC2 ABS light

There should be an ABS bulb '91-'02.
3 reasons for the red brake light: p-brake sensor, low fluid, ABS fubar.

1 & 3 I'd ignore (had bad luck with ABS in the S-Series, best to pull the fuse and...

Re: 2001 SW2 manual: starter won't engage - no solenoid click

Take a test light or DMM and check for power at the purple wire and the battery/alternator terminal on the starter.

If both have power, the starter is effectively dead (probably 'just' the...

Re: Mufflers and metallurgy

One thing almost nobody talks about with exhaust is the wall thickness of the pipe. There's a trade off between strength, durability & weight; the thicker it is the more durable it will be but the...

Re: Valve Body Mystery Connector Leak

The auto's don't have a vent.

Fluid level should be in the "ok" range, not to the top of the 'full'.

Re: I am running out of gasoline

60mi each way, same route, average 60mph (15mi of 35-50mph roads, 45mi of 65mph highway) only real variable was the gas station. 38mpg with Shell 87, 34mpg with Cumberland Farms 87. Mobil got nearly...

Re: Interesting notes about the control arms I just recieved

One time I bought 2 TRE's from Advance Auto...same box & part number but when I got home 30min away only 1 had grease fittings...the other was the silly sealed for life style.

Re: What GM cars beside saturn had the trunk mounted CD changer?

Pretty much any GM car with the same connector as the S-Series ('89-'99 cars for sure, both my '00 and '01 Silverado's also use it) they could potentially have a compatible changer.

Last time I...

Re: 95 with a copper/orange color?

Too bad it's a SCSlow...I love that color lol

1995 colors attached, pretty sure that's the 3rd gen "Burnt Orange" color that PaintScratch.com won't admit to the S-Series using (maybe they're not...

Re: nothing happens when go to start motor

Pretty sure '97 is the only year with the relay (maybe it's just '97's famous for it failing?), it's part of the anti-theft system not exactly the starting system. It's basically another clutch...

Re: nothing happens when go to start motor

Starters are functionally identical '91-'02, all 3 engines. The very early ones are huge and have 1-2 more brace's than later ones (the change was around '94) but they'll still swap to any year just...

Re: Overheating?

Sounds like there may be a problem with the gauge sender. '91-'95's use a 2-wire sensor for the PCM to read the temp and a 2nd 1-wire sender to run the temp gauge. They're both about $13 but...

Re: Should I be worried?

Usually the oil pressure light means it's time to change the engine :(

Hopefully the sensor just got disconnected or otherwise failed rather than the engine.

My connection isn't agreeing with...
