Ok how did the car get in to this state?

You might want to double check you spark plug wires and make sure they are not mixed up and have the fireing order reversed.

2008 has been a bad transmission year for me.

January had reverse slam and slamming in every gear. Pulled transmission end case, checked shaft nuts and every thing was in spec, still had issue....

Lots of good info in this thread!

I had hard shifting and reverse slam back in January and swapped out valve body's and it shifted like a new car.

Jump to the other night and 4th gear goes on...

After trying the wolfman fix and checking the nuts on the shafts I finally swapped out the valve body and it seems to have fixed it for now.

I took me a few hours to do it and the hardest part was...

What about valve bodys for automatic transmissions? Are they all the same or is their a difference between the MP6 vs MP7 and any changes for model years?

All the ones listed on ebay say all model...

I am also having some weak starting in the mornings now.

I know that a noisy alt can cause shifting issues but slams?

When I get some more free time and when it stops snowing I will check and clean all connections on the transmission.

I did get a SES light when I frist started the car after check the shaft nuts...

I took the end case off of the transmission and the nuts were tight to spec and there was no play on either shaft.

I also did the reverse slam fluid flush and it is still slamming had in to...

I do know about that procedure and might give it a try but I dont think thats the issue do to it going from 100% fine to broke as hell in a 6 mile trip.

I get to where I was going and put it in reverse and get a nice slam even at...

Yes, you are correct but I ment the serpentine belt that runs the powersteering pump and everything else.

The idler makes noises like he is discribing when it gets a little play in the bearings.

Checked the idler/tensoner on your belt? Mine is making all kinds of rattly tinging noise at low rpm and veriouse loads on the motor. I got the parts but not the time to change it yet.

I had parts thatI know were good so I used them. I had to have my car on the road today and I didnt have the money to spen god knows what on new parts. Local store wanted $112 for a new tensioner...

I pulled the tensioner off first and the plastic wheel was warn bad with chunks of melted rubber on it. The idler also had chunks of rubber on it as well.

After some cussing I got the idler off...

I ordered the parts on 6/23 and the finally got them all and "shipped" to me on 7/5 from San Francisco.

Now I wounder how long it will take for them to get to me.

"Bent" rod.

The #1 rod is deformed enough that the piston doesnt travel as far up the cylinder as the rest resulting in lower compresson.
