Re: Manual transmission failure

Even if the linkage turns out to be ok, I would be in the market for a used tranny rather than a rebuild. They are all over eBay in the $300-500 range, some with fairly low mileage. Maybe you could...

Re: Intermittent Starting Problem

What AstraFasta said - would check fuel pump relay not getting energized, potentially by some glitch involving a security/safety system? Strange. Are you locking the car with the fob between...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

Fair enough. And it's definitely appreciated that you share the info on the site. There aren't too many of these on the road, so the info really does help.

183 does seem a little low. I think...

Re: Astra 45k mile service - inexpensive & runs like new!

I have to ask - did you order these because the thermostat housing is leaking, or is it because these are the last two remaining original parts in your car?

Really just trying to be funny, but...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Yes, agreed on the inconsistent TB intervals. Another example: the same engine in the Chevy Cruze (and presumably the Sonic) has an interval of 97,500 miles...and frankly, the Astra owner's manual...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Sounds like a similar scenario to me. I bought this car as a leftover two weeks after my daughter was born so I could have a back seat. She's about to turn 11. Time flies!

I'm in no hurry to...

Re: With sadness

Congrats on the Cruze and hope you enjoy it - you're right, with every passing year the selection of hatchbacks dwindles. The Cruze hatch is certainly one you don't see every day. Find one with a...

Re: 2007 Vue Greenline Catalytic Converter revisited

Is it possible to take the part that's too short to a welding shop to have them weld it in with an extension? I wouldn't think that's too difficult. I had a welding shop put a generic flex pipe in...

Re: Replacing steering pressure hose

Did this resolve the problem? Now I am curious if I am experiencing something similar. I have a fairly significant power steering leak but am being told it's the rack, but I'm not convinced as this...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

I used to own a 1994 Toyota pickup that had no power steering (from the factory), but it was easier to steer thanks to the smaller wheels and more friendly steering ratio. I did notice that once my...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Sorry, didn't communicate clearly. I replaced the battery one time, after about 7 years. But yes, I seem to have good luck with batteries.

Just got a call from the tech regarding the PS leak,...

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Funny to see a lot of the same characteristics as these cars age. It's been just over 10 years of ownership for me, and I'm starting to see the slight clearcoat bubbling on the rear bumper (car is...

Re: 2008 Astra wont start - security issue?

Not sure if I've heard of this happening before. I would try the old trick of pulling the negative battery cable for a minute or two and seeing if you can perform a hard reset. Otherwise you may...

Welcome. Congrats on the purchase; always like the wagon version of this car. Hope it treats you well.

Re: New tensioner assembly, new belt... Still getting p0a92. Help!

You posted that the belt was slipping. We recommended you use an OEM part since it's unique to the GM BAS system. No need to get upset that it didn't fix the problem; using the correct part was the...

Re: New tensioner assembly, new belt... Still getting p0a92. Help!

Agreed; it uses an aramid core belt that is pretty unique; don't think I've ever seen an aftermarket. Probably a dealer-only part.

Re: The last Saturn Astra owner.

Must be that Hoosier hospitality. :) I'm in the same boat as you - only 80k miles but the car has been rock solid, with the exception of the flex pipe that cost me about $60 total. I'm ready for a...

Re: Saturn Recall of Takata Module

Is it just the driver side airbag? I got my letter in March and have promptly ignored it, which I know isn't a good idea. I understand the issue affects those in humid climates to a greater degree,...

Re: Hybird system not working dealer recomends new timing chain?

Good analysis - makes sense. You're right that this is a common problem. I had "light timing chain noise" on mine (confirmed by the tech), which was one of the reasons that prompted us to move on...

Job done this afternoon. Part was about $15 on ebay and local shop welded it in for $55. Thanks to those who provided links.

Re: Flex pipe

Just hit with this problem this weekend - fired it up after a highway run and it sounded quite a bit more flatulent. Picked one up on ebay for about 15 bucks and I'm not even going to try it myself....

Re: Incredibly Slow Acceleration From a Stop

It's definitely not a rocket, but it sounds like something is wrong. Is the engine light on? If so, can you get the codes read? It's not revving up without accelerating, indicating a trans...

Re: Best Speed to Drive the Astra 5 speed

I've averaged 31-33 mpg year in and year out since I bought the car new in 2009. For highway driving (speed limit withstanding, of course) I set it at 70 mph, which I believe is about 3250 rpm. ...
