Re: 02 SL2 driving impressions

Horn use is quite rare here as well and it is not illegal to use one either.

Re: Long term use of dex 6?

FYI GM is now licensing the DexCool name to be used on any Universal Formulation antifreeze and it may be dyed orange to match, this has been going on for some number of years. If you are concerned...

Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

There is no plug because it was not required when that filter was manufactured. Big Government looking out for you.

Re: Emissions readiness DTC- how long does it take?

That is the correct behavior. The SES will go out when the engine is started. It will always behave that way except if ther is an active code it will not go out.

Re: Emissions readiness DTC- how long does it take?

If you leave the key OFF and reconnect the valve with a clean connector, no grease, then you will not set a code unless you have a dirty valve seat you manage to get clean enough to shift the close...

Re: Emissions readiness DTC- how long does it take?

Or Never depending on conditions. The rest will set ready as soon as you get a good 15 minute cruse at 45+mph at operating temperature followed by closed throttle coast down.

Remember, a watched...

Re: IAT Sensor Fastened to Engine Coolant Hose

No significant bad effects created as it all cools off as it should when the engine is off. If you look at the LTFT you will see the shift is rather minor.

Re: Timing cover removal

Yes, that will work and if that relief fails you will have no oil pressure. The pump is self priming as long as the geararotor is coated with assembly lube. To insure it actually primes you replace...

Re: oem tstat date code question

Anything that increases oil temperature will lead eventually to oil consumption increase unless you are using actual PAO synthetic oil. What you are looking for is the highest temperature before the...

Re: 2002 SC2 double din radio question

The usual issue is the depth not the double DIN face size as most but not all double din radios will fit. Use the big search box and run a search on double DIN there is lots of info on this including...

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

That can be a problem but getting one to stick open requires a chunk of carbon to lodge on the seat. If you are burning oil you should be using s screened gasket to break up the carbon. That pintle...

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

OP: If you can cause this to happen routinely when you first start the car it may be a leaking EGR. If that is the case pull it off, cut up a piece of sheet metal or a pop can and Cover both EGR...

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

Your info is correct for a OBD-1 controlled valve but incorrect for the OBD-2 as the OBD-2 electric valve, when on an OBD-2 system, has a direct readout of the desired position and will set a code on...

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

Have you owned the car since new?

Exhaust check can be done with a box fan aimed into the tail pipe once it is warm outside. It is not an immediate thing though.

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

OBD-1 and OBD-2 monitor EGR differently. That 95 OBD-1 could care less if the EGR is hanging up.

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

If the EGR is out of range then you will get a code, no code here. This could be a strange ICM random failure and that will not immediately set a code but it will if the condition exists for more...

Re: 99 Saturn SL2 Intermittent hesitation/shaking

I would check the fuel pressure with engine running, 45-51psi and check the exhaust for leaks per procedure below.

Exhaust leak check.

Re: New valve cover spurt leaking

It was already warped or bowed or both and once you break the old gasket seal it finished. There are directions at the link provided on how to check the cover for warp, rack, or bow.

Info is in...

Re: New valve cover spurt leaking

There is a flange on that fastener that physically limits the gasket compression. Continued tightening results in no increase in gasket compression and usually a broken off bolt in the head. This is...

Re: Transmission ratios charts here

Anything with a mechanical odometer has gears in it. By this time most of those gears are all gooey and shedding teeth. Plastic has a rather short service life and in many cases the OEM lubricant...

Re: Transmission ratios charts here

The gear replacement is relatively simple and the big issue it to get all the broken pieces out of there the first time.

Re: Transmission ratios charts here

You need new odometer gears, there are 2 of them and they die of old age. failing gears foul up both the speedo and odometer.

Re: Transmission ratios charts here

google just repeats the mistakes of others, no fact checking.

This is how you ID the installed trans. SOHC is an MP-6 and DOHC is an MP-7:
Use these for trans.
