Can P0731 and P0401 be related?

My daughter's '99 SW2 CEL has been on for a week and she just got the codes read at AutoZone. The printout shows three codes in this order:
1) P0731
2) P0401
3) P0401

Could one problem be...

Re: Windshield Wiper Arms

That's what I would've thought, too. But then I needed to replace the passenger wiper arm on my '99 SW2. I went to the junk yard and pulled the best looking arm ($10), which happened to be from an...

Re: Is this the correct valve cover hose?

Thanks for the ideas alordofchaos and NWSaturn247, but my nature forces me to side with toggenburg on this one! :D

mattwithcats, RockAuto won't ship to me any more due to the recent changes...

Re: Is this the correct valve cover hose?

The official snow total from the city was 20", but I'm up on a hill and only got 15" at my house. Unfortunately, the city doesn't plow my neighborhood and none of my cars have more than about 9" of...

Is this the correct valve cover hose?

The SW2 needs the hose from the front valve cover to the air intake plenum (on the right side of the engine). I think this provides fresh air when the PCV opens? I found this hose on Amazon...

Re: Math Q: Cheap Expensive Oil

You'll probably end up with something a bit thinner overall. If it were mine, I'd only mix one quart of 0W-20 with three quarts of 10W-40. But that's just me.

Re: Cleaning my engine using Auto-Rx and HDEO

Yeah, sorry! :)
The car has just reached 160k mi and I plan on changing both the oil and filter this coming week. That will give me about 9k mi (13 mos) on the oil and 5k mi (9 mos) on the filter....

Fixing worn wiper arm?

Anyone had luck repairing the splines inside the wiper arm?
Mine are worn smooth so that the spindle turns but the entire arm just rests stationary against the windshield.

Re: how to repair section of flooring under car

Are all of those taken outside/under the car?
Based on your stated use of the car, you might get away with a rust converter product (like POR-15). Most of those types of products catalyze with the...

Re: how to repair section of flooring under car

I did this same repair to my 1990 Saab a couple of years ago. I worked with a guy who was doing similar work restoring his father's old pickup, so I asked him what he'd charge to do this repair on my...

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

True. :)

Really? Where did you find that info? 'Cuz I just checked Walmart's website and none of their oils are ACEA rated. In fact, half of them weren't even ILSAC rated. And, just so...

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

For me dexos is not a spec I rely on for engine longevity. It's primary goal is to earn GM the regulatory $$ credit for a fuel efficient motor oil that lasts barely long enough to meet an "extended...

Re: Add oil instead of changing oil

IMO there's not enough info here. How much oil does "burn the oil as they do" mean? How did you decide on 6k-7k intervals? Is this the standard size filter or the longer version? And why do you want...

Re: Oil Treatment, SeaFoam & Auto-Rx - Report

I'd hold onto the EP filter until after your entire A-Rx clean & rinse phases. It's just going to get loaded with crap. I like the CarQuest Red filters sold by Advance Auto Parts. They're made on the...

Re: Oil Treatment, SeaFoam & Auto-Rx - Report

Hi Keblar,

If it were mine, I'd use one bottle of A-Rx with the T6 and add 2 oz of A-Rx mixed into each qt of top-up oil. Also, since you're adding 1 qt of oil every 1,000 miles, I'd only change...

Re: Slowing down as I press on gas

I had a similar problem once on a Dodge. It turned out to be an old/soft fuel line that started collapsing once it got warm. I wonder if a similar problem would be created by a collapsing vacuum line?

Re: Switch from 5w30 to 10w30?

Either would be fine in your location (between those two choices, I'd pick 10w myself). As others have said, using Full Synthetic is a better choice than non-synthetic. And I'll throw in that using a...

Re: Well darn, my '99 SL2 laps oil like a BMW

I haven't heard of Google Scholar before. Thanks!

I remember a theory postulated several years...

Re: Well darn, my '99 SL2 laps oil like a BMW

A lot of excellent observations about individual driving conditions and how they affect oil selection. Climate, geography, vehicle maintenance, trip length, and driver personality all play out...
