Re: Green Brake Fluid in 98 SL

DOT 5 is a funny shade of green and does not mix with the glycol based fluids.

I would describe it as a green with a brown tint.

Re: Dedicated Snow Tires vs. Saw-Cut Grooves

The non squirming MC tire set has a center block that is more or less continuous and is only sipped at 90 degrees to the plane of the tire. It is not very wide so it is not a hydroplaning issue...

Re: Needing to replace transmission

You either took the plastic tip off of the push rod or missed the divot in the fork. There is a spring in that slave cylinder and if you do not have to use a fair amount of force to get it all back...

Re: Dedicated Snow Tires vs. Saw-Cut Grooves

Did you look at how the Conti Twins were configured? The secret is that center rib. Specifically look at the rear tire in that pair. You can find matching patterns in some rain tires. Those chevron...

Re: Hesitation and flashing SES with no DTCs

Further info. The gen-3 ICM is quite temperature sensitive and becomes more-so with increasing age. The earlier ones are not.

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

Because the dealer does not know how to read the parts book. Just order the correct alternator from DB Electric and go watch these videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iogtiYraHCg and ...

Re: plugs and wires

Push in on the tab you can see in the rectangular hole to the right of your screw driver and do not pry up on it so hard. Twist the screw driver so as to lower the side of the blade closest to the...

Re: Dedicated Snow Tires vs. Saw-Cut Grooves

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

The CS 130 has been upgraded and that is the OEM but unless you have the correct side connector it will not function without an adapter. There were some crap rebuilds built into the CS121 case with...

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

You buy the DB Electric alternator with the external fan. These are new alternators with a real warranty at about 1/2 what the FLAPS will charge for a rebuilt junk.

Open The hood and look at your...

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

The alternator output is below specifications for the loads you applied and the alternator voltage regulator is not controlling correctly. The only remaining is if the battery is still good. Starting...

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

If you have a battery charger try fully charging the battery. If it is a low current charger give it a 16 hour continuous charge and if it is one of the automatic ones let it do its thing. This is...

Re: Working Up a S-Series AC General Procedure

A system exposed to air for any appreciable time should be flushed to remove all contaminated oil.

Any dead system should first be evaluated as to the condition as some require nothing but a...

Re: Hesitation and flashing SES with no DTCs

Severe misfire event. Change the plugs and wires as a first step. If that fails then it could be a coil and/or the ICM. If you were really wailing on it when that happened then see if you have a...

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

Get your voltmeter and connect the black lead to the battery negative. Remove the cover from the UHJB so you can access the red wire from the battery and connect the red lead there. Be sure the meter...

Re: high idle and negative fuel trim

Junk Yard. Find one that is still in a pressurized system. Better than rebuilt and the original manufacturer of that compressor declared them non-rebuildable and would not provide internal parts. I...

Re: Idle hunting caused by electrical issue?

Measure the voltage to ground at the UHJB connection --not at the battery. Monitor this voltage and see if it swings with the RPM. Record max and min values.

Re: AC Compressor - Model number comparisons

Parts store usually has good ones strangely enough.

You can use the R-12 hose with a R-134a adapter with no problems. The hose issue is gas permeability and not any degradation. You are not...

Re: 98 SC2 project. Drive for now, maybe rebuild later.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Basic entry level quality wires are the Standard Motor Products Blue Spark series. Probably the best bang for the buck. Google should find them for you as local...

Re: high idle and negative fuel trim

If you used a puller pressing on the center compressor shaft you may have trashed the compressor seal. That is why you have to finesse the coil off of the front of the compressor. There are ways to...
