Re: Overheated & STOPPED !

That stuff does not burn so the engine ran out of air. Generally that sets a P1599 code which does not turn on any lights. The air intake is real close to the left end of the radiator.

Re: Dipstick confusion

To get accurate oil level readings with the modern high cling oils requires having a specific parking spot and use it every night. Open the hood after parking and pull up the dip stick 4-5 inches and...

Re: Dipstick confusion

It all depends on how hot the oil got. Oil temperature is a critical item in the DOHC and to a lesser degree the SOHC.

Re: Overheated & STOPPED !

Vaporized antifreeze and water shut the engine down.

Re: Dipstick confusion

The entire crosshatch area is 1 quart. Your red line is passing through the center diamonds, there are 10 of them at 3.2oz each. Do not run more than 3 diamonds low and you can add oil to the "U" on...

Re: Overheated & STOPPED !

It is likely it is fine but the only way to find out is to replace the radiator and run it. You may have sprayed hot antifreeze on the coils etc and that shut it off.

New radiator is the first thing to try.

Re: Coolant Hose name?

Aftermarket lists it as Pipe To Water Pump. These are all cut to fit and you first have to very carefully cut the crimp ferrell off of the hose without cutting into the pipe. RockAuto is the lowest...

Re: SOHC and DOHC exhaust manifold

Making the proper lower support is not a particularly difficult task and as has been pointed out anyone doing this should know it must have a lower support. When they crack or the flex joint fails...

Re: Interchangeable Parts?

No one actually rebuilds them. You find good ones in the JY as it is cheaper. The RHD rack is available from the links I posted.

Re: loose steering column bolts...again

It is a manufacturing tolerance issue, minimum column diameter and maximum clamp full closed diameter. Probably a small slide rule error.

Re: 1996 sl2 - 2 New exhaust replacements and both have flange the wrong rotation

Just explain the flange orientation and they can send you the year that fits. Saturn just pulled parts off the shelf to fit the manifold they just pulled off the shelf.

Re: loose steering column bolts...again

When you can take both halves of the bracket off of the column take a file and remove a couple strokes of metal of the left hand part, both legs. That will cause the clamp to fit the column tight...

Re: how to remove mangled oil filter

Some of those do not have the inner hex so you can get them loose that way. Your earlier pix did not show that clearly as if that exists it is the easy-off method.

Re: how to remove mangled oil filter

You will have to find a pin spanner that is a square drive so you can use an extension so you can get a breaker bar on what is left. You will probably have to make it yourself or find someone who can...

Re: SOHC and DOHC exhaust manifold

That is pure BS. If you do not install something correctly do not blame the product for your sloth.

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

You do not use a big gooey bead, just a thin film as the timing cover is a metal to metal seal. The secret is to let the acetone solvent fully flash off and then it is not instantly sticky. A thin...

Re: What are the sway bar bushing that attach to the frame called

The penetrant should be applied to the nut side and the threaded end of the bolt daily for several days before attempting removal. There are holes in the cradle where you can do this. Using an impact...

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

This stuff is entirely different than RTV as it does not actually set up or cure. It is much more user friendly.

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Plain old RTV Permatex Ultra will be fine in gray or black and if you want to do it right use this: Permatex 85420 Permashield Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing & Sealant. Order from Amazon. This is an...

Re: Misfire cylinder 3 then 4 diagnosis help

Yes. My preference is FelPro but that is a trip to the local FLAPS for the local inflated price. The V-R will be fine.

Re: Going nuts with .. belt tensioner noise?

The 775 is a bit short and will probably bind the tensioner. As the aftermarket changes with the weather the 778 is the DOHC short and the 780 is the normal. Look at the belt thickness and go long...
