Re: Just Normal Or Rough Idle.

Did you ever get this solved? I have an '08 AURA 3.5 with 70,000 miles and the exact same issue you are describing--car is otherwise pretty amazing other than the rough idle.

The only difference...

Re: Getting to the Roof Rails to Remove Dents.

I also wanted to clarify that I don't need to remove the entire roof rail + rear quarter panel as the dents are near the front; I just need to get to the front part of the rails.

Getting to the Roof Rails to Remove Dents.

After still owning my 2003 ION all these years, we have added an Aura to the Saturn family in our garage. This also leads me to my first Aura question:

The car has a few small-ish dents in the...

Re: Ion Clunking

You have an '03 ION, so your bushings are making noise--they all do this from this year. It is not an issue, just loud. Dealers were replacing these parts with new parts that did the same thing. I am...

Re: Transaxle Getting Notchy?

I have a really hard time downshifting into second gear at 104,000 miles.

I have read reports that the syncros go out in these trannies around 110,000 or so, so be prepared.

Re: Dash panel removal

I have taken the dash apart a few times. You will not need to take much apart for this.

Start with the panels on the A-pillars.

Then remove the HVAC cover in the center by pulling on the vents....

Re: Dropped something in the dash vent - How to remove dashboard?

The procedure is quite involved and unecessary to write out at this time. Besides, other forums have already done a wonderful job of doing just that. (ionforums.net, for example)

Re: Dropped something in the dash vent - How to remove dashboard?

I removed my entire dash a few months ago; it can certainly be done.

Where exactly did you lose something? You likely will need to take the ENTIRE dash out, though, to get to the vent system to...

Re: Lightbar on Ion

If you do anything "cop-like" to your ION, people will probably think you are just a security guard and give you even more trouble.

Re: Who's had the squeak

Mine used to squeak off and on depending on weather.

It hasn't squeaked in about two years.

Re: Air conditioner fan noise

IIRC, the blower itself is around $30-40 and the remount kit is around $20? Please don't take my word on it, though; call the dealer for the prices (since you have to get both parts from the dealer)....

Re: Air conditioner fan noise

The blower motor in the ION has plastic bearings, causing the squeaking/chirping sound you are hearing.

You can replace the blower motor yourself quite easily, but you need to cut the housing and...

Re: Scarry Situation

If you lock the rear brakes, your car will spin, especially at turnpike speeds (with few exceptions under specific conditions).

Even with ABS you can spin the rear end around if you shift too much...

Re: Unusual Problem When Using A/C

It's normal for these cars. It also happens when you turn the rear defrost on, but you have to be really paying attention and it isn't as noticable.

Re: Brakes!!!!

My '03 is hovering around 99,000 miles and I have the original brakes. I plan to replace them within the month or so as the pads are at their minimum 1/8' thickness. If I replace them sooner rather...

Re: This may sound stupid.

It depends on what you are used to.

The ION has always gotten a bad rap for how noisy it was inside. I figured it was just because it was an entry level compact car and noise was expected.

Then...

Re: brake job

That is not odd, unless we are both odd.

I have 98,000 miles on my original brakes. I just did a brake inspection last weekend and I am at the 1/8" minimum for the inner pads, so I plan to replace...

Re: Half the A/C

I took the dash trim apart and got stuck at the airbag so I put it all back together and gave up.

But now I know how to take the trim off the airbag so I am going to try again.

The part that...

Re: Half the A/C

I have the exact same problem and plan to fix it soon (Haynes manual on its way to my door as we speak). (In fact, I came here to post a thread about it, but I don't need to now.)

Let me guess,...

Re: Rear Lights: Which Are Which?

Nope, the filaments don't break when a 3057 burns out. I have had three bulbs burn out and not one had a visiably broken filament.

I will post a photo of a burnt out bulb later.

Rear Lights: Which Are Which?

I searched the forums and I can't believe this hasn't been brought up before (and I can't believe how long it's been since I have posted).

Re: car is shaking

Not sure where you are located, but have you checked for snow packing in the rims? It doesn't take much to throw the wheels off balance.

Re: Reliability ?

Great to hear the good news.

My '03 ION has 95,000 miles on it and it's better than the day it was new.
