Re: First generation S-series roll call

Cityhawk, yes, I am Corvair-less, although the person who bought my Corvair is a friend from church, so I still get to see the car (and actually drive it) now and then. He's a much better mechanic...

Re: First generation S-series roll call

I've had my 1991 SL since 8/10/91, and she's still on the road. The odometer went haywire last summer when it read around 495,000. The numbers just roll up and up now, about four times what they...

Re: how many miles do you have on your saturn?

Mine is a 1991 SL with 490,800 miles. The engine is original, though the timing chain and one valve lifter have been replaced. She still gets great gas mileage, about 37mpg.

Re: How long as your Saturn lasted you?

I've tried some other additives and gasoline brands but never noticed such a dramatic change as with the BP gasoline. There's a hill near my house and in order to maintain 50 mph, I would have to...

Re: How long as your Saturn lasted you?

I've had my '91 SL since August of '91. For the past year, she's had an intermittent problem with the transmission (5-speed stick), so I haven't been driving her much - just on weekends. This week,...

Re: how many miles do you have on your saturn?

She rolled over 472,000 this week with the original engine and transmission ('91 SL).

The transmission (5-speed stick) is finally showing signs of trouble. She can go weeks without a problem...

Re: What's in your console?

There's a Chicago Transit Authority token that's been sitting there for 15 years. It was the last one I had left when I moved out of the Chicago area in '92 and I never got rid of it.

(Do they...

Re: At what mileage does the Saturn start having issues?

Something was wrong when I started the car one evening. (There was nothing wrong when I had parked it a few hours earlier.) I started the car and noticed a loud rattling sound, or a sound very...

Re: At what mileage does the Saturn start having issues?

Yes, that's correct. I lost count and I'm too lazy to go back and look - it's either four or five, but the last one was three years ago last week (wonder how much longer I can go?? The last one was...

Re: At what mileage does the Saturn start having issues?

Look for the timing chain to give out at roughly 360,000.

Re: Most Mileage on a clutch?

My '91 SL turned over 463,000 miles last week and it has the original clutch. The only thing I ever had to do with the tranny was last year when the stick flopped loose, and I had to have the cable...

Re: Front Door Speakers

All you have to do is take a screwdriver and snap off the grills. You don't have to mess with the door at all. It's pretty easy - I did it myself, and if I can do it, you can do it.

Re: Manual Transmission Fluid Check

Wow, I think I've changed mine once in 16 years. I thought they recommended changing it after the first 3,000 miles, but after that, there is no recommended interval to change it again. The...

Re: 2000 SC2--Engine Blowing at 100k mi???

I doubt he's actually thinking of Saturns, or else he's just making it up to sound like he knows something. I have 460,200 miles on mine ('91 SL) and it still runs great. (And yes, it's the...

Re: replacement doughnut tire

This is probably true for most owners, but I recently found my spare to have the tread peeling away. I don't mean cracks - I'm talkin' peeling away from the belt underneath, around the circumference...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

Guy, you are right, I'm a big fan of the retro look. But you mention a car like the PT - that design is, what, eight years old now? Of course it's cooled off. My question is why the heck hasn't...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

You're not kidding. Toyota, Kia and Honda are probably the worst offenders, IMHO.

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

Okay, fair enough. The Astra name is new to the U.S.

It's a subjective thing, but I'm sick to death of all these look-alike, jellybean shaped cars. There's no more than a handful out there...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

And it's a 2008 model? Do they still have a styling department? What have they been doing the past seven or eight years? Jeez...

Don't tell me - I'll bet they're now working on the 2015 model,...

Re: Dumbest stuff ive ever read

Hang on, now. I did buy a '91 SL in 1991, and I'm still driving the thing almost every day. It's been a heck of a car!

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

The thing looks like a cross between a Pontiac Vibe and a Dodge Caliber. Good grief. Couldn't they come up with something original? It's as if the styling department said, "Aw, heck, we can't come...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra Info and Photos

Do all cars these days come off the very same drawing board? Don't automotive stylists have the slightest bit of imagination? There is practically nothing at all distinctive about the looks of this...

Re: Who's in the 200,000 MILE club??!!

I graduated from the 200,000 Mile Club five years ago this month. Today, the odometer clicked over 453,000 on my '91 SL, Zippy. (The original license plate had the letters ZPE, so I dubbed the car...

Re: How Many Miles on your S-Series

I'll vouch for the durability of the clutch. My '91 SL has 452,300 miles on the original clutch, and I'm still driving it almost daily. (I bought an '06 Mustang this past summer that sits in the...
