Re: Manual Radiator fan switch advice.

I would just like to add that I love my manual fan switch! I never liked how late the fan would kick on in heavy summer traffic. Hot running is hard on the oil and could contribute to coking on the...

Re: "drl conversion"

Update: I upgraded to LED headlights and I lost my DRL's

On the bright side (hahaha) my new head lights are amazing! 3x more light down the road, much better for county back roads at...

Re: P0304 after WOT

Depends on how many miles are on the motor and what condition it is in.

A dead cylinder (if it is actually dead) after WOT usually points to a burnt valve in these motors, but you'll just have...

Re: Automatic to manual in a 95 DOHC

Weird, I can get the throttle to snap shut pretty quick, so much so the throttle plate has worn a grove into the t body. :p I'll be replacing that pretty soon...

If you do go the manual route,...

Re: 99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd

Interesting. I have the CC unit out of a 99 HC in a box, I wonder if that would help my cause. I will look into the OldNuc hack further, thanks much!

Re: 99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd

So because I'm running the ECM and injectors from a 95 on a 98 with a returnless fuel system, I'm always running a bit rich and the PO172 pops up after about 2-3000 miles. It's runs well, but the...

Re: Automatic to manual in a 95 DOHC

I went from automatic to manual on my 98 S series, and I love it! Ya it felt a bit weird for the first couple weeks, but 2 years later I have no regrets.
I think the pedal placement is just...

Re: "drl conversion"

I'm a fan of the DRL's on my S-Series.
I like that I can been seen at all times on the road. I also like how they run off the high beam lights so the car looks a little bit cross eyed. :xeye:

Re: Throttle always sticks a bit DOHC

So I had a closer look and indeed the throttle plate was mechanically binding in the throttle bore. The plate has worn a grove in the bore and the plate is getting stuck in it.

I know it's ill...

Re: Throttle always sticks a bit DOHC

Checked that, it's not. I think it may be that the throttle plate is binding in the bore a bit, a result of my coming off the gas real quick when I shift for years causing the throttle to slam shut...

Throttle always sticks a bit DOHC

So ya, the throttle on my SL has always been a bit sticky off idle, esp in the colder weather. I have serviced it several times, usually by just removing the intake tube and scrubbing it out with a...

Re: Cylinder 3 misfire & Fuel in Oil

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you need to post 10 times before you are able to post pictures.

Once that is sorted, looking forward to seeing your car getting sorted!

Re: Interesting article...

Most people pass me in disgust with their more modern cars as if I don't deserve to be on the road with such an old econo box. Could be the smells coming from the exhaust, coupled with the noise and...

Re: HELP Accidentally Cracked Fender

I can trump that story....

I had to do a wheel bearing on my SL. The wheels I have on there for the winter comes from an Ion, which has a hub bore that is maybe 57 instead of 57.1.

So they go...

Re: Annual Angst

There is nothing wrong with my 22 year old Saturn, except that it's a 22 year old Saturn. Sure I can do most of the repairs it ever needs, but what I've realized is the time it takes to do all the...

Re: What did you do to your S-Series today...

Today I removed the ECM that I installed yesterday because the 99 ECM won't play nice with the 95 injectors I have in the motor. It was a fun task outside with the temps well below 0 this morning...

Re: The domino effect on brakes -a cautionary note!

I just did the rear brake shoes and drums on my 98 S series. Was going to do the wheel cylinders too but like your car the fasteners are all rusted into place and rounding. Of course the brake...

Re: 99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd

The ecm came from a car that had CC, could it not be working because of using an ecm meant for a automatic on a 5 spd car?

I will find and install the correct injectors for my setup. Luckily the...

99 ECM into a 98 SL with a 95 DOHC 5 spd

OK! So today I installed the ECM from a 99 S-Series DOHC automatic into my 98 S-Series with the drive train from a 95 DOHC 5 Spd.

When I first did the swap with the 95 ECM I noticed was that...

Re: Cold start after 6 months storage

So I decided to go all out and pulled the plugs, put oil down the cylinders and primed the oil system. I figured at the same time I could check the compression while I got everything all lubed up. ...

Re: Looking for new wheels- let's talk size

I have 205/55/16's on alloys from a Saturn Ion. My car is lowered an inch and a half on H&R's. The tires are a bit too big but that's what the rims came with and they only rub turned all the way...

Wow, you were lucky! Mine leaked like heck. Of course once I got a lovely metal cover put on it decided to leak from somewhere else. :p

Re: Cold start after 6 months storage

Ya that's what I was thinking.

Everything should be covered in a nice thin coat of clean oil from what I understand, and it's not like I'll drive it hard as soon as it starts. Will probably let...
