Re: Can the ignition switch be removed without removing the steering wheel (93 SL2)?

Awesome - great video, thanks...

Right now I'm stuck because I've lost the right attachment for my narrow drive nut/screwdriver set.... Should get back to it this weekend.

Can the ignition switch be removed without removing the steering wheel (93 SL2)?

I have the problem with the chime staying on after the key is taken out - seems to be a common one. I've seen some differing information on whether or not you need to pull the steering wheel to get...

Re: Changing a starter on 97 Saturn

I think the alternator is out of the way. (And the bolts have been broken loose already!) It's a nice vid.

Re: 1996 SL2 Starter Replacement

Obvious point... but disconnect the battery. On my 93 I ended up with an extra piece - a brace for the end of the starter. The new starter was a lot shorter and didn't require it. Be careful to get...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Why, thank you...

(To other poster - ) As far as tensile force, there's definitely a decent bit from the belt tension - or else the aluminum wouldn't have failed in the first place. But I can't...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

The head was broken off the 'top' bolt; the shank is still sticking out. So that can serve to locate the top lug of the alt. I drilled a hole through the 'web' on that lug of the alternator, and used...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Wanted to post a follow-up to this story. I have made a crude but I think effective repair using wire and adding some angle iron and flat braces to give me places to wire down to. There is already...

Re: Power steering pulley

Check the idler and tensioner bearings carefully for roughness first. My bad power steering pump turned out to be the idler pulley bearing.

If you do the pump... I got a rebuilt pump from advance...

Re: Wheres the EVAP purge solenoid located on the 92 Sl2?

That's what I did- the bolt was stuck. Good idea to disconnect the battery, you'll be relatively near the hot on the starter.

Re: Tow dolly for a 93 vs 2000 SL2

Well, my luck changed and I got a 'free upgrade' to a trailer. So I can't provide another data point on the dolly....

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Yeah, I'm not sure how that's going to work. I think it'll be very difficult to set something up to clamp it together.

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Right- so you're running about the way I was before the bottom one broke off... Not to say it's going to happen to you of course, but I will say I'm really pretty surprised it happened to me. The...

Re: Tow dolly for a 93 vs 2000 SL2

Thanks. Do you think a 93 and a 99 aren't that different? Maybe you're right about buying some wood for ramps.

Tow dolly for a 93 vs 2000 SL2

I am planning to tow my 93 SL2 home behind a moving truck. Penske says the 93 front is too low to make it onto the dolly. 2000 SL2 shows as OK. I think it'll just rub when I load it up and back it...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Yes, I think it's going to be worthwhile stripping it pretty far down. At least I know how to get the ps pump off because I worked on that recently.

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Do you mean the bottom one (through bolt) or top one (into timing cover)?

My alternator is cocked over, and something is squealing when the car is running. I am not sure exactly what. The belt is...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Thanks- I did see that too... My thought is to get home and then try something. It's still going to be some work to do it with any chance of success - I'll need to take the serp belt off, most...

Re: Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

It sounded from the rest of your post that you meant you do think it'll work (?)

I'm leaning towards renting a u-haul and dolly to tow it home after my vacation. I can't really take the chance of...

Broken off alternator mount!... looks like RIP

Well - I just drove 700 miles from home for the long weekend, and my alternator mount broke right off the block. :hmm: As many of you will know, it is part of the block casting. It's not very...

Stiff heater 'mode control' selector

Does anyone have any tips for lubing the heater mode control (feet/face/defrost) - 93 SL2 ? The cable end has popped off under the dash a couple of times when I try to move to the right - toward...

Re: My power steering pump swap experience.

I also did it from above. I took all the bolts out, bracket and all. The hardest one to get back in was the one that goes into the metal support that comes across underneath and is attached to the...

Re: 94 SL2 Radiator Leak UPDATE Question

Just did it myself. $150 for the radiator from Advance (in stock). Manual trans so that helped. The hardest part was detaching/attaching the AC evaporator- fiddly and limited access. Not too bad if...
