Re: Gas Smell

Regarding the OCI, this is calculated by the ECM (I think, could be the BCM) from the time, distance, number of starts, temperature, and ??? It does not monitor how dirty the oil is. If the shop...

Re: Radiator Fan stuck on?

Before you do anything else, replace the engine coolant thermostat. This is a $30 part and only takes an hour to do. There is a rubber seal around the valve disk that degrades and prevents it from...

Re: LS2 Broken Door Brake or 'Stay'

Here is a pretty good guide for the front door panel.

Re: Slightly loose steering column

In the FSM for 2000 the torque for these bolts is 20 ft-lb. Note that there are three of them. two (one bolt and one stud/nut) at the strap type bracket and one farther forward and above the column...

Re: Slightly loose steering column

The design of the bracket that fastens the steerng column to the dash is part of the collision energy management system. There is a specific torque for those bolts so that the column can slip through...

Re: Slight vibration after axle change

The fact that changing the axle coincided with the appearance of the vibration points to it being the cause. If the vibration is more pronounced under heavier throttle, then this would be from the...

Re: 2003 L200 Next Project?

If you have both front wheels off the ground and perhaps the wheels removed, you will be able to turn them. When one is turned forward the other will turn backwards. This is because of the...

Re: 92 saturn please help

I once had a car that overheated because the radiator had lost most of its fins to corrosion. When the AC is on there is another fan blowing air over the rad, so it can cool more. I suspect the rad...

Re: 2001 L100 exhaust manifold

I'm afraid that your only option is car-part.com for recycled parts. The manuals didn't sell in large numbers and parts specific to them are hard to find.

Re: L300 Timing Belt, spark plugs etc.

I would try approaching the Saab specialist shops in the LA area. I use a Saab specialist for both my L-Series and Saab 9-5 cars in Toronto. It is a bonus that it is a short walk from my office. The...

Re: New LW-300 owner with questions

Congrats on what sounds like a good score. Try an "auction site" or other internet market for the appropriate owner's manual. The service schedule is a separate document that may, or may not come...

Re: Replacing headlight assembly - 2000 LS2

This sounds like another case of cost cutting. I have an early build 2000 car, with excellent Bosch headlights. The lenses are as clear and shiny as when new. The car has not been garaged for most of...

Re: Strange Popping/Grinding Noises

It is hard to tell exactly what is happening from your description. But I think there is something in the drive axles and CV joints generating these noises. The reason that they disappear when the...

Re: Ecotec PCV Test

@ Hec.... The Saab B235XX engine. My previous '99 had the LPT and I currently have a '05 Aero. No issues with these engines but eventually they need timing chains (just like the L61). Oh, maybe a few...

Re: Ecotec PCV Test

The predecessor of the PCV system was called a "road draft tube". These were banned with the introduction of emission controls. If you direct the hose down to the road or to a catch can, you have...

Re: Tools needed to replace turn signal lever?

We just did this on the LW1. It was not necessary to remove the lower shroud on the steering column, only the upper one that just snaps off. The switch itself just clips in. In all, a 5 minute job.

Re: Swapping the motor and transmission on a 2000 LS2. Need advice.

You should have a good look at the timing belt on that "new" engine. Although well within the recommended distance, it is very long on time. Look for cracks at the inside corners of the teeth.

Re: Air conditioning only blowing on windshield!

Do you have the manual control or automatic temperature controls for the HVAC? It is possible, but not probable, that the problem is in the control unit.

In either case, the way that air is...

A shortcut on removing the cluster. You don't need to completely remove the padded panel below the steering wheel. Just pull firmly on the top edge to release the spring catches. The bottom will just...

Re: What is "normal" oil usage...

Re: What is "normal" oil usage...

The L-61 4 cylinder engine has, in my experience, very low oil consumption as normal. The original engine in the LS1 went to 280,000 km (~190,000 mi) with low oil consumption. The current engine is...

Re: help with 2.2 ecotech motor swap

If you are able to compare them side-to-side you should be able to confirm that you will get a physical fit. Be sure to check the AC compressor mountings. You should keep as much "stuff" from you...

Re: help with 2.2 ecotech motor swap

You will likely need to use the old exhaust manifold, as the check valve is probably not the only difference. The other thing you need to check is if the new engine has the proper mounting for the...
