Re: ZipGripGo - possible new option for emergency winter traction?

yeah, noticed that they were sold out. it's an interesting idea for emergencies though so i wanted to bounce it off a few noggins. clearance issues kind of limit our options, but these look like they...

Re: 30 PSI Compression Cylinder #3

yes. losing a cylinder will very much throw the motor out of balance and cause the car to shake. that said, when it eventually dropped a second cylinder it ran really smooth. couldn't hold 45mph on...

Re: 30 PSI Compression Cylinder #3

i averaged 20-22mpg (mostly highway) with the #3 injector unplugged. in my experience with my sw2 the underpowered motor struggles so much when it's down a cylinder (mine had zero compression) that...

Re: Excessive Oil Burn

these motors also tend to burn oil via the PCV system. some forum members have significantly reduced oil consumption by using a fixed orifice PCV valve.

Re: Where to start?

remove the front O2 sensor and go for a drive. if the engine runs better there is an exhaust restriction, most likely a plugged pre-cat or catalytic converter.

Re: exhaust flange gasket failure

the clamp was missing a bolt and the exhaust was off the hangers. remedied those two issues and replaced the gasket, hopefully it's fixed.

Re: There's no such thing as a stupid question? I'll prove you wrong :-)

Re: Engine Running Hot

two thoughts: either you've got a coolant leak and the coolant is burning off of the hot motor, or you've got an oil leak and the oil is burning off of the hot motor. depends on what it smells like.

Re: exhaust flange gasket failure

haven't had a chance to check the clamp, but did discover that the flange nuts were loose. tightened them (without replacing the gasket) and it's significantly quieter.

exhaust flange gasket failure

about to replace the exhaust flange gasket on my sw2 for the third time. is this a common problem with these cars, or is there a problem with the manifold/exhaust?

Re: Low compression cylinder 3

what he said. i ran my wagon that way for a few months before swapping motors and it was alright. it'll be slow, it'll vibrate, the gas mileage won't be great, but for tooling around town it'll be...

Re: can i get a quick rundown of causes of oil burning?

did you figure out what caused the valve to burn? if you didn't, you'll be repeating this project in the near future.
