Re: coolant compatability

Took a look at the system after the car was driven to operating temp. No fresh fluid anywhere, but white stain around rad cap looks suspicious and lower hose also has semi-dry coolant on it. Having a...

Re: how does a/c work

Yup, I know. Saturn told us that at the owners orientation.

I engaged it but I think I'm out of luck.
Didn't hear that lovely twang noise, and looking at the compressor, the center part isn't...

Re: how does a/c work

Do you damage components by running below a certain pressure?

how does a/c work

It has been a long time since I ran my a/c.
Like, a couple of years.

Anyway, before I try kicking it on this year, I would like to know - if it does have a leak, will using the a/c make it leak...

Re: coolant compatability

not sure, I think it's a 5 year fluid.
And def. due for fresh fluid, so I'm going to top off with the aftermarket and look for the leak while I figure out how to drain + flush. For some reason,...

Re: coolant compatability

Oh, now I recall the lifespan issue. I switched to peak global lifetime on my saturn so had forgotten about that.
Related question - is RO (reverse osmosis) water the same as distilled, for AF...

coolant compatability

I recall reading some sage advice a while back, but now that I need to use it, I realize I don't quite understand it.
The advice was, don't mix different fluid brands. because each one has a...

Re: axle seals

The leak never showed as a loss on the dipstick, and now it does.
At the time of my fluid swap I did take the opportunity to check position of the diff pin and it was good at that time. I had a...

Re: axle seals

well I think they wrote down axle seal/rear main leak, and that may have just been to state that something in the area was leaking without determining what. I am very hazy on my understanding of that...

axle seals

A few years ago the shop rotating my tires noted leaking axle seals.
I actually kinda forgot about it, as they didn't mention it on my subsequent trips for oil/tires.
I just checked my...

Re: battery drain

Guess I can't do that. My 'smart' charger is 2A and I've only measured 13 ish V.

I read about a break in period, as well. I'm know all these measurements have some innaccuracies, I'm just trying...

Re: battery drain

Battery tested low CCA and supposedly failed load test. This tester does not show good/bad. Just gives volt, cca, and says the battery needs a charge. I wonder if the tester accepts temperature input...

Re: battery drain

It's holding 12.5v after one test run and sitting a full day
Wasn't able to get out for the diagnostics, but should be able to today.

Re: battery drain

I have done many battery tests at the FLAPS. They show voltage, temp, CCA, and report good/bad. I have had many batteries test 'bad' and continued to use them without issue (even a few fresh off the...

Re: battery drain

I think so. Mostly, anyway.
ignition off (forgot to write it down, lol. 12.6V, iirc)
Idle 14.6V
While driving 14.4V
Ignition off 12.8V

So the alternator is good and I assume that also...

Re: battery drain

I did a test trip on the charged battery and used my scan gauge, which appears to measure same values as my MM.

Idle 14.6V
While driving 14.4V
Ignition off 12.8V

So that means the alternator...

Re: battery drain

Sounds like my usage, and I thought a few weeks was ok to not drive. I see now that the sooner you restore SOC to 100%, the better. My temps are also mild, not too much driving under 40F.
I have,...

Re: battery drain

I wasn't sure if the BT Junior was rated for cars, or just motorcycles. The manufacturer website didn't spell that out clearly enough for me. The next model up ( plus) appears to be needed for AGM...

Re: battery drain

Great info!
I don't quite get why I measure voltage after trip and shutdown. Voltage at idle tests alternator and voltage under load checks the belt, right? As I'm in a bit of a time crunch, I was...

Re: battery drain

Battery is still under warranty.
Still charging it up, but how do you measure voltage at the power outlet?
How far should I drive for this test trip?

The SOC table helps clarify.
But of...

Re: battery drain

I get that my present 7.6V is low, but why is the battery now needing replacement? Yes, I still need to resolve how it got like this - was it just my driving pattern, or a parasitic draw? I did...

My (interstate) battery is about 2 years old.
I just did the starter recently (october), and iirc I charged the battery at that time.
I use torque/OBD and have an innova scanner, and NEITHER one...
