Re: A/C Question

Between the dodgy switch and the skimpy wiring, this is why I installed a separate relay for my low beam headlights. I used #10 wire straight off the positive terminal on the fuse box with an in-line...

Re: Replacing alloy wheels leaking like a sieve. Alternate compatible size?

I have the 16" wheels off my '99 Saab 9-5 (departed) on my '00 LS1. These fit perfectly. The steering knuckles, wheel hubs, brake discs and calipers are identical between the two models. The rear...

Re: How does the Steering wheel come off?

Releasing the spring clips that hold the airbag is very difficult. A flat blade screwdriver of a very specific length is required. The last time I did this I just cut the plastic cover on the back of...

Re: 2003 L200 Rear Brakes

Aluminum and steel do not play well together in the presence of chloride solution (AKA salt). The resulting corrosion is stronger than crazy glue. If anything, GM and other carmakers have increased...

Re: 2003 Saturn LW 200 Fuel Pump Replacement

Congrats on a resourceful fix. If you had a better fix on the pump location, you wouldn't have to cut out as much metal. There is a circular recess in the bottom of the tank that is directly under...

Re: P0442 Evap System Small leak

If it is just the smaller steel pipe that is rusted through, you may be able to fix it by cutting out the rusted part and replacing it with rubber hose.

Re: P0442 Evap System Small leak

X3 on the filler neck pipe. Pierrot is in California, and won't have experienced this problem. Mine was purchased used from Florida, but came with a bad purge valve, so I used the old valve.

Re: Rear Disc Brake Line

In some cases the best approach is to search for Vauxhaul Vectra B parts in the UK or Ireland. I found the rearmost handbrake cables for the drum brakes this way. They were cheap and fast. But I...

Re: L200 Catcon

Just a reminder that the exhaust section with the cat for the automatic transmission and manual transmission are distinctly different parts due to the routing of the exhaust and the location of the...

Re: I Fixed the Blinking Security light Problem on a L200

The L-Series is theft-proofed by its unpopularity with car thieves. This is a major reason why the insurance is so cheap. Add the 5-Speed to the mix and you could leave it unlocked with the keys in.

Re: So Those Rear Trailing arms?...

The L-Series rear suspension for all years is identical to that of the Saab 9-5. These parts are very available at a number of sites in various grades. Here is a cheap one-...

Re: L Series Engine Cradle Retaining Bolot Specs?

There are several good threads on subframe repair on this site. You can use the advanced search function to look for them. I highly recommend installing a simple frame brace to prevent the possiblity...

Re: Lots of problems

I had to go to the UK for the emergency brake cables at the rear drum brakes for a 1.6 litre Vectra B. All their other engines had discs. Some discussion of engine mounts above. Are people aware that...

Re: Need some advice on replacing drive axle

I have had both front axles changed due to inner CV joints being loose. My mechanic only charges 1 hour labor for each, so it isn't worth me doing it myself. Rebuilt axles are cheap.

Re: P0xxxx errors?

Yes. The fuel filler neck corrosion is a common problem. Actually, it is the small steel vapor tube that runs alongside. This rots where it is welded to the little bracket that is bolted to the...

Re: HID Headlights

Even though my Saturn has DRL's, I always drive with the full headlights on (low beam). I have done so for the last 45 years of driving, after being told by my flying instructor that I should always...

Re: No crank Saturn lw300

About 6 years ago I purchased a non-running LW1 for my son's first car. It was pretty cheap at CAN$1000, but as the PO stated the engine had been recently replaced due to TC failure, I figured it was...

Re: Saturn L series radiator replacement

One site I use is "The Wrench Monkey" which has a TYC 2607 listed at C$151.12. Rockauto is at C$86.96 for the same part plus shipping, duty, HST which comes to C$126.27. So it is still cheaper to go...

Re: Cooling Fan Runs Constantly 2003 Saturn L200

+1 on the failed thermostat. These have a rubber seal on the edge of the valve disc that disintegrates over time. No seal and it doesn't close. Cold. No heat. Fans run constantly. Now the cooling...

Re: mystery amplifier??

My early build 2000 LS1 with the standard Radio/CD/Casette unit has 4 door speakers and 4 tweeters. Later built units cut out the tweeters in the rear doors (decontenting). I had to replace the front...

Re: 01' ls100 questions

The MY 2000 equivalent to the L100 was called simply 'LS'. The trim and content was similar. Rare as hen's teeth. The correct sequence is LS, LS1, LS2. No such thing as an LS3. So:
LS = L100...
