Re: P0410 error code - HELP

I had the NGK direct fit front O2 sensor on my car - never tried the Bosch. When everything worked and was clean, I could go 2-3 years between P0410 events.

Re: Sudden sharp pull to right around curves/turns

Badly worn ball joints on a non-Saturn vehicle had a similar effect for me. Had to turn in the direction of the turn at the beginning, and then turn the other way to continue in the turn direction...

Re: 180K Day on Original Clutch

When I retired my Saturn it had 315k on the original clutch, and I always used it when shifting. Part of long life is technique. Part is that I live in a flat region of the country. Launch with as...

Re: Cylinder 3 misfire & Fuel in Oil

Welcome to the forum!

When these engines burn a valve, it is almost always in cylinder 3. A compression test will tell you if this may be the issue. A burned valve results in little or no...

Re: Sc2 still kills out

More information leads to more possibilities. If you check the fuel pressure while the car is misbehaving and it is very low, either the filter/regulator or the fuel pump is the likely culprit.

Re: Sc2 still kills out

Go to your local parts store and rent a fuel pressure gauge. Check the fuel pressure with key on, engine off, with engine running, and after shutting off the engine. Key on engine off and engine...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?

There are many folks here more clever than I am, and hopefully they will chime in with other ideas. Given the size of your fleet (if your signature list is of currently owned cars), swapping out the...

Re: What causes ignition retardation?

The only thing I can think of based on my years of reading this site is that there have been cases where the clunk of a failing serpentine belt tensioner is read as a knock by the knock sensor which...

Re: P303 code with exhaust smell

Options are few. The head needs to come off and be rebuilt or replaced with a rebuilt or used head.

Re: Should we keep our '02 Saturn?

Keep it if you can. You will not find a more DIY friendly vehicle in the current market unless you buy a restored classic.

Highmile, is that a typo in your signature, or have you been driving a...

Re: P303 code with exhaust smell

Cylinder 3 is the most common one to burn a valve on the DOHC engine. This results in a severe loss of compression in that cylinder with accompanying misfires. The compression test will tell you if...

Re: question about daytime running lights

What I was trying to say is that in my case, the failure of the indicator bulb did not affect the operation of my DRL's. They worked correctly for years after the indicator burned out.

Re: question about daytime running lights

DRL's worked normally on my 02 SC1 long after the green indicator bulb on the instrument panel burned out.

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

Glad you got it sorted. It is a nice feeling of accomplishment when that SES light goes off after a repair.

Re: Possible IAC issue with idling

When my IACV died, the idle was around 500 rpm - just barely staying running. This was because the valve was no longer opening. Your 3000 psi idle was just the PCM getting to know the new IACV. ...

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

If you have previously verified that you have vacuum at the diverter valve while the air pump is running, then yes, the diverter valve is not opening and must be replaced.

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

Next step is to disconnect the big black hose that goes from the air pump to the diverter valve at the valve. Do another cold start and check for air flow coming out of the hose. If there is flow,...

Re: P0410 error code - HELP

Remove the silver tube and do a cold start. Air flow out of the open end of the diverter valve should be strong. If it is not, either the air pump is weak or not running or the diverter valve is...

Re: Piston soak revisited: Methods and observations

When I did a Chemtool soak, one cylinder would not drain. I used engine compression to force the fluid past the rings by manually rotating the engine a bit. The process did indeed force the fluid...

Re: Unsafe feeling front end

Based on that alignment "report" you shared, that shop was clueless. As OldNuc stated, you have to align the rear first, before doing the front. Caster is not adjustable, but should be measured and...

Re: Unsafe feeling front end

Did you get a wheel alignment after all that front suspension work? If not, I'd start there.

Re: 2002 SL sputtering going up hills

Plenty of posts here on P0410, but know that the issues that can trigger the P0410 code do not affect how the car runs. Get your thermostat and ECTS sorted as suggested. 30 mpg highway is terrible...

Re: Shift bushing gone, perhaps?

Yes, that sure sounds like the bushing failed. Shifter just flops around while the transmission stays stuck in whichever gear it was in.

Saturnbushingman sells a good replacement online. It is...

Re: A/C Compressor Replacement Recommendations?

One more critical piece of data required: Is the radiator cooling fan blowing full blast when the a/c is turned on?

Static pressure suggests there is a reasonable amount of refrigerant in the...

Re: Evap vent solenoid P0446

PCM failures on these cars are very rare. Sounds like one check is "stuck" and preventing the others from completing. You might try clearing the computer and starting again. Most of the monitors...
