Re: With sadness

The 16" alloys are now spoken for.

For those who give a hoot, here's (http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20310&d=1280641783) what I did to the Astra's hatch and attached...

Re: With sadness

The Astra alloys stayed with the car, it will be the 16X7.5 5-110 ET42 ANDROS alloys for the winter tires that I'll be surplusing. I could drive them an hour or two from Chicagoland or if someone...

With sadness

At 135,000 miles and facing a round of work from the third (or 4th?) time spending hours sanding and defogging the headlights to the much more expensive clutch, brakes and summer tires, I've traded...

Re: Members, Get Your Asstra in Gear

Aside from a frustrating Mass Air Flow sensor experience at the nearby Chevy dealer, which blamed the K&N intake, my XR has been without trouble for 125,000 miles. K&N reimbursed me for some of the...

Re: code P1101 after new intake

Bumping an old thread here and thanking past posters.

At 114,000 miles, my CEL came on and posted the P1101. The vxr snorkel was installed back-when (maybe 20,000 miles or fewer) and then the K&N...

Re: takata recall

If the cover is part of the assembly, then I'll ask them to move the Opel cover-up badge by Sherwood Automotive (no longer in stock) from the old cover to the new one. Or at least not to toss it.

Re: takata recall

Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part, hoping I can find an Opel steering wheel cover AND getting the dealer to swap it out when they have it apart. It looks like VXRshop is dead, so my...

Re: takata recall

If you run your VIN through the official GM recalls page, it comes up as an Astra H, or at least mine did. Unless they gave the Saturn version a different airbag for U.S. and Canadian regulations,...

Re: takata recall

This looks like the time to replace the Saturn airbag cover (with an Opel cover-up badge) with the real Opel airbag cover. Any ideas on part numbers and sources for my black 2008 XR would be helpful....

Re: New Buick Astra spotted. For real this time

Maybe someone who follows the dollar/euro exchange rate can answer this, but one of things that doomed our car was the unfavorable rate that brought our cars in so much higher than the competition.

Re: Fog Lights (was Astra expertise in the Toronto-Buffalo area)

Sorry to bump an old thread, but here's the outcome: A shop here in Chicago installed HID 9005's. We used the canbus adapters from AbsoluteHID.ca, which refunded me the cost of the bulbs marked H11...

Re: New Buick Astra spotted. For real this time

Want a definition of crazy? To hope for a two-door model in the U.S. It looks like a VW GTI or higher might be my only $30k choice when/if I have to replace my 2-door XR.

Re: Hello head unit, goodbye OnStar (was DIC functionality)

Mine is black and I'll post photos of the line-up in a day or two. As for the Opera radio, I think there are some CD's still inside, since I'm sure I didn't eject them before handing my keys to the...

Hello head unit, goodbye OnStar (was DIC functionality)

Having previously upgraded the door speakers to Infinity Kappas (no change to the rears), it is amazing how much better the car sounds with the Kenwood eXcelon double-din unit with Bluetooth, HDRadio...

Re: DIC functionality.

Also, my Sirius Starmate 8 external tuner (with dock and a display that can switch to black and yellow to match our dash) is also now surplus, with an antenna.

Re: DIC functionality.

Yes, here's the mirror with auto-dimming, compass, airbag notice and OnStar. It will probably be made surplus, since I'm not enough into OnStar to do the inventive one-channel amp solution and am not...

Re: DIC functionality.

We're on the same page. I bought an FMV for $29/shipped and OnStar told me I can move my account to that mirror, but I hope I won't have to do so.

I can do without the Passenger Air Bag...

Re: DIC functionality.

My Kenwood double-DIN install is set for Monday and I'm sorry to bump an older thread.

My Astra has mirror taken from a wrecked GM pick-up, so it has OnStar plus a compass and auto-dimming. It was...

Re: DIC functionality.

Thanks, Nicolas. I ordered the steering wheel harness from eBay for about 65 USD, shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171527926573

Re: Fog Lights (was Astra expertise in the Toronto-Buffalo area)

Thanks. I'm hoping they'll send out some H11's to see if they fit better.

Driving at the end of that week about three hours from Western Michigan to Chicago, starting at midnight, I'm sure the...
