Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

A car that has no pressure in the lines will not start with the fuel pump fuse out.

Regardless, with the relay in place, you're going to have to clear that code and then drive around until the...

Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

How are the connections at the fuel pump relay? I'd just clean up those contacts, replace it and clear the code and drive it a bit to get the readiness monitors the check off.

Re: Need to tap into switched +12V

I don't know what your guys are doing that requires AllData. Just fix the basic, well documented, minor issues you have and drive on.

Re: Need to tap into switched +12V

No, you're completely correct. What leads to the failure is heat at the F5 connector.

Re: Need to tap into switched +12V

Why doesn't someone ask the first and most important question...Why are you hacking something up to power the BT adapter? Just leave it plugged in, it's not going to hurt anything. It will take over...

Re: Rockauto.com

Ok, check this out -- I ordered some Volvo parts (320mm brake rotors and Ceramic pads :D ) from them yesterday at 10am Pacific, from two different warehouses. Both packages were delivered at 11am...

Yup, not all Chinese parts are bad like some claim.

Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

I've never taken a fuel pressure measurement in all my years of working on Saturns. I usually just make sure the correct parts are used and then keep driving. I'm sure your pressure will be fine with...

I'd guess it's ice somewhere as well.

Re: Wrecked Saturns

You don't even have to pay for it, you just set it up with Google. I have it set up for my name.

The best advise I can give someone just starting out is to do your best to bloom where planted...

Re: Wrecked Saturns

Not at the moment, and you'd have to move to the land of west coast communism. I'm sure the work at your current place will get better as you get more experienced.

Mods, you might want to remove...

Re: Polar Vortex Coldest Startup Thread

This is more like what my 98 SL2 sounded like when I started it at -4F back in the great Oregon freeze of December of 2014. It sounded like a diesel for about 20 seconds. Somewhere north of 200k...

I'm a mechanical engineer and I do consulting in accident reconstruction -- small overlap tests were intruduced around 2013, and it took a couple years for manufacturers to...

Re: Wrecked Saturns

I let my Saturn go in favor of a solid, safer Volvo sedan. We sold my wife's '06 Nissan Sentra and opted for a safer Kia Soul.

That said, I still own some unsafe cars. Geo trackers are really...

Re: question on SL2 fuel filter

Fuel filters are expensive -- about $50 for the 1998-2002 cars IIRC. I use the wix 33731 only (as you should too, since the filter has a built in pressure regulator).

Re: Screw down the engine.... need some help

I don't think I removed anything except the exhaust and stiffening bracket...but it's been a few years. I was just sneaking a peek at the bearings on an oil starved engine that we were pulling.

Re: Screw down the engine.... need some help

Pulling the oil pan is not very hard at all...that would have been the first thing I did, honestly...

I pulled one in less than 1 hour a few years back. I don't remember anything hard about it. ...

Re: Screw down the engine.... need some help

Pull the oil pan and you'll probably find the screws. Catch the oil in a clean container, save and reuse it after you get the screws out. If not, get the USB camera and feed it down any places the...

Re: Upper engine mount adapter kit - I need community help with development!

Do you have an example of this system actually in use? Do you have one in your car? Otherwise, it's academic.

Re: Upper engine mount adapter kit - I need community help with development!

Do you have a link to that thread? While a custom mount with a soft bushing might be an acceptable solution to some, I believe the vibration that would be transmitted would be pretty harsh. Plus you...

Upper engine mount adapter kit - I need community help with development!

I've recently been talking with a new Saturn owner about his upper engine mount, as it seems the OEM mounts have dried up. Unless things have changed in the last few years, the aftermarket upper...

Re: Gen 1 specific parts

I have the design files ready and a shop that has the programming work done to produce these -- I had a run of 10 made a couple years back and slowly sold them off. I'm considering doing another due...

Re: Saturnitis

Did you get your hands on one of my EGR adapter plates yet? It lets you use a 2nd/3rd gen head or engine with the vacuum EGR valve. I think I have 3 left.

Re: Saturnitis

My S-series fever broke a few years back. They are great cars, but most are pretty well depleted. Mine was getting close to not passing CA emissions testing as the state continually increased the...
