Re: Worst Service - Ever

It wasn't a joke and is a widely practiced automotive industry standard. It must have been something I picked up working in a tire shop for three years. I implore you to visit any reputable tire shop...

Re: Worst Service - Ever

Worst service ever? Seriously? Please.

I understand your complaints, but can't believe anyone would waste their time, gas and energy driving 100 miles over tire pressure. Spend $5 and buy your own...

Re: Oil pan gasket

That's all it takes. Make sure to thoroughly clean the pan and block of the old gasket material. The key to a good seal is a continuous bead of the same width. When you get to a bolt hole, apply the...

Re: Can I replace BCM myself?

You can install the BCM yourself but you cannot program it correctly. The BCM needs to be programmed for your vehicles installed options (1 or 2 relay cooling fan system, mileage, fog lights, PDL,...

Re: Overcharging problem

I'm curious how a mechanic knew your alternator was bad/overcharging when the vehicle had a dead battery in it. If the battery is at a low voltage and not accepting a charge, of course, the...

Re: Wheel Squeal

I don't have a picture... and you won't really need one. Just follow the axle shaft from the wheel to the transmission. Where the axle mates with the transmission, you'll see the axle seal. There's...

Re: Wheel Squeal

Special Forces,

If the noise does not go away when you apply the brakes, it is safe to assume that the noise is not coming from your brakes.

If you find that there is enough pad left and that...

Re: l300 stalling\starting issue

You've got to understand that part of that cost is diagnostic time. Typically, a crank no start/no start/intermittent/MIL on/etc. will be 1.0-1.5hrs diagnostic time. A tech checks out your car. They...

Intrax Lowering Springs

I've got some used Intrax lowering springs. I used them for a year on my 1999SL2. They will ship in the original box. Uninstalled them because I am into mountain biking more than modifying my car,...

Re: SES Light...could this really be the reason?

Yes, this could set your SES. We had a customer who paid an outside shop $800 to replace and reprogram a PCM due to an SES. Well, the SES was STILL on! Shocking, I know... but, why? The upshift lamp...

Re: 97SL1 won't start when warm

While it is probably not the entire no-start problem, it is likely a part of the problem. Checking fuel pressure is a 60-second job, anyway. Too common on 97s not to check. :) Sometimes they will...

Re: 97SL1 won't start when warm

There is a check valve on the fuel pump that fails on the 1997s.

To check this valve, connect a fuel pressure guage at the fuel pressure test port (which is just below the throttle body) and turn...

Re: Puddle Of Oil On Driveway!

The oil pan gaskets on S-series are leakers. 'Seeping' is almost standard. Sounds to me like you've gone well beyond that point and need to get it resealed. You don't have to pull the engine, but...

Re: Is it true that all SL's drink a lot of oil once they get over 100K miles?

1qt/1000mi is perfectly normal. Personally, I would do nothing. However, if you have an irresistable itch to make an attempt at reducing oil consumption, I recommend using the GM developed remedy: GM...

Re: Good Luck Automatic orders....

As far as I can tell, it's bogus. Unless they only let salesmen know about a service issue, there is no bulletin or document regarding a transmission concern on GM's web-based service info.

Re: Good Luck Automatic orders....

What is the bulletin number regarding the transmission issue?
I don't see anything on web-based SI.

Re: WTB: Gently used lowering spring & struts for 96-ish SC2

I've got a set of Intrax springs that came off of my 99. Similar in ride quality to Eibach, but with a lower drop. see: intraxsuspension.com

Re: Sunroof

It's no big deal. Take down the sunvisors and remove the map light bezel. Then, just peel the front of the headliner down and peek in there. If it is still connected, I would cut the bottom of the...

Re: HELP !! Is the dealer telling me the truth ??

Aftermarket TAMs are crap. Replace it with a genuine Saturn part. That's a starting point. If you don't see a improvement or are not happy with the improvement, change the remaining 2 dog bone mounts...

I don't know how you cleaned the drains, but sometimes while trying to clean them out, the hose will become disconnected from the sunroof module. You might want to make sure it is still connected....

Re: Loose steering column collar

You need to buy new breakaway bolts and then remove the old ones. If I were you, I would buy a set of stripped nut extractors (that go into a cordless drill) from Sears. This is a GREAT tool for this...

Re: My saturn is dying

Check for an oil leak from the camshaft cover gasket. It is most likely dripping down the head and onto the exhaust manifold. If I were in your position, I would take the car to a reputable mechanic...
