Re: Best tires?
Interesting - not my experience at all. When we put them on the truck it was like having a turbo for the snow.
I do tend to lean to tires that cost half as much and need to be replaced twice as...

Re: Best tires?
I like Primewell. I have them on the '99 SL2, the '00 Buick, and the '06 Ram 1500.

Re: and so it begins....
I have a pneumatic nibbler. I don't think that would be the tool to cut out the unibody. They claim 14ga steel but I'm not sure I believe it. Also if the steel isn't flat, the nibbler isn't happy....

Re: When low mileage means squat.
That is $300 worth of boats there. With a roof rack you can easily transport them on a Saturn. The hulls weigh about 40 lbs each so they are easy to carry. It's the slowest boat on the lake unless...

You mean Aquarius like the catamaran? I picked up an SC17 from a buddy this winter.

I'm trying to finish the airplane and I don't drive anymore because I work from home. So for me to buy something it has to be super cheap and fall in my lap.
Timing wise I can wait for the...

Re: When low mileage means squat.
From the description it is hard to tell how bad it is. Rusty means a lot of different things to different people.
I'm waiting for a non-rust belt '98ish wagon with a blown engine to be available...

Re: Girdle worth it?
I've only rebuilt the '99. I've not opened up the '98. I assume it is the same as the girdle, or windage tray bolts on separate from the main bearings. Those 6 bosses around the inside perimeter...

Re: Crossbeam Rust
If it was me, I'd keep driving it. The parts to really worry about are the rear drag link mounts and the front subframe. It would be good to oil up that part and keep rust from propagating further....

Re: Mystery vacuum line
I would not bother checking for fuel yet, if it was confirmed there is no spark. Did you knock the CPS connector off? Any movement of the tach needle when you crank it?

Re: Mystery vacuum line
Have you checked for spark?
It it was running and stopped after you swapped the starter, it is more likely a self induced issue. Though a compression test never hurts that is not the first place I'd...

Re: 2001 SC1 frontal crash- can it be saved?
Welding definitely works. If you get skills out of this project then it is worth it. Practice welding a bunch of scrap. The gauge of the metal you are welding is thick enough that it should not be...

Re: Cylinder Head compatibility
In my opinion, it is worth finding a great machine shop and having them rebuild your head. I was very happy with my machine shop. My '99 motor will easily be good for another 20 years plus....
