Re: Oil pan replacement

I've done the oil changes myself since I bought the car in 2013. I've got a torque wrench and am a fond believer in lefty loosy righty tighty lol.

That said, the bolt has always felt a little...

Oil pan replacement

Has anyone had to replace their oil pan in their Astra? The threads to my drain plug stripped out today as I removed the plug.

Ideally I'd do it myself to save a few bucks on labour, but if I...

Re: Aluminum in Oil?

Astra 1.8L, 153,000km. Engine has a timing belt rather than chain.

I'm the second owner, bought it with 130,000km last year. Oil looked okay up until the oil change before this one, or at least...

Aluminum in Oil?

I just did an oil change tonight on the Astra and noticed I've got small aluminum (non-ferrous) particles and chunks maybe 1-2mm in size in my drain pan. I found 3 or 4 small pieces caught in the...

Re: melted headlight harness

Thanks for the input guys!

I found a universal harness for the 9005 bulb that should do the trick.

I've never soldered anything before, so that'll be a bit of a learning curve. Also need to...

Re: melted headlight harness

Pulled a 65w out of that socket, there's a 60w on the other side.

Unfortunately it looks like the damage is done to the connector. Unless there's a way to rig it up without causing problems,...

melted headlight harness

This past week I had a bulb fail, upon removal I discovered the connector was melted. I installed a replacement bulb I had, and have noticed it has dimmed quite a bit since I put it in, no surprise...

Re: So... there was some water on the road...

Just as an FYI; it's been about a month now since the code came up and it has continued to drive well since the reset, and the CEL has not come back on.

Think I may have gotten lucky and something...

Re: Side mirrors

I'm sure GM has seen plenty of these cars come in with these problems. About a month after I bought my car the passenger side started shaking as I drove down the highway, and it kept getting worse...

Re: So... there was some water on the road...

I had Saab (Saturn) of KW check the car out on Monday, they scanned the codes for themselves and reset the system. According to them, from what they've seen this code pops up as a 'hiccup' of sorts...

Re: So... there was some water on the road...

Thanks for the reply; the more I've read about the code today the more I've come to terms with what needs to be done. I'm not one to ignore problems that my vehicles have and like to get things...

Re: So... there was some water on the road...

I got it scanned this morning; P065E is the only code that shows up, and doing a quick search here, I'm a little scared lol.

Could this code be caused by a fouled sensor from when I hit the water,...

So... there was some water on the road...

Driving to work at 5am yesterday after that lovely rainfall/thaw that we had, I was cruising along a main route when I was rudely met by a section of road that had flooded over and with it being dark...

Re: I hate to bring it up.. But.. Block heater cord?

I was fortunate and a fellow in Mississauga had one who forgot to include it in his Astra when he traded it. Took the family for a trip and met him at Square One to seal the deal; $60 later it was...

Re: Timing Belt service

Yes I did end up having the service completed, it went well and was accurate to what they quoted me. Out the door after tax was $640.43 for everything.

Broken down they have it on my bill like...

Re: Timing Belt service

It's at the former Saturn/Saab of Kitchener/Waterloo, now only Saab. Same owners and mechanics as when I used to go to them with my old SC1 and Ion. I had to verify (twice) that they were giving me...

Re: 2008 Saturn Astra XR Engine Heater Cord

Try a local classifieds, I posted an ad for one locally and someone sent me a message telling me of one in a different search area; 45 minute drive and $50 (still insane for a cord) later I had a...

Re: Timing Belt service

I can't help but wonder why the timing belt would need replacement after a water pump failure on these cars? The water pump isn't driven by the timing belt, so I'm not sure where the connection is...

Re: Need a little help please.

Thanks for the thoughts.

It seems as if there isn't something in the track, but that the noise is there when the car has been sitting in the sun all day. I go to work in the early morning...

Re: RPM's going fluctuating while going up a hill?

Sorry to dig up an older thread, but did you ever look into this deeper?

I've been noticing it on mine lately, you can hear the fluctuation as well as feel it as the car accelerates; it's worse...
