Re: Rattle clatter when started cold or warm

Thanks for the help, I will try the belt removal first to see if it is in the accessory drives. I should have said once the noise stops, the engine is very quite. The oil light goes out very quick,...

Rattle clatter when started cold or warm

My sons 2002 SC2 has started a rattle clatter noise when first started that last for about 5-10 seconds. Are there any issues with timing chain tensioners on these engines? Miles 145k. Always full of...

Re: Lots of wheel bearings failing around here?

I found that out too when I went trough 2 sets of rotors in less than 5000 miles. I drive a 100 miles a day in the SC2.
So I raised the car, set on jack stands and placed floor jacks under the ball...

Re: Lots of wheel bearings failing around here?

That's the truth........installation is the key! Proper installation to be exact.
I know to well on that. As I just went through this with a local Napa machine shop. I used Detroit Axle hub and...

Re: Saturn timing chain

Is it normal to have a little chain clatter with start up. All 7 of the Saturn I had did. That was 1 SOHC. And most had between 90-120k. As soon as oil pressure reached the tensioner would tighten...

Re: 2002 SL2 - scary brake problems

I had a similar noise as you describe. Turn out to be a bad ball joint in the lower control arm. The ball joint is a major part of the S Series geometry. When worn the wheel will become unstable to...

Re: Darting in steering after turning

You really do need to get a good shop to align it. Replacing parts as you mentioned, will greatly alter the geometry. I am sure you know that. Just saying.:D

Re: KREEN Added to Oil Reduced the Oil Burning in my SC2.

Being a full quart low is a bad thing. That remains 3 quarts which will be a lot hotter, which will increase oil consumption. Add in 1/2 or even better 1/4 quart intervals.

Re: New bearing failure.

Drives perfect, no sound anymore of a bad bearing. Smooth as butter stopping. I do believe I just had a bad install of that bearing from the shop.

New bearing failure.

I know there are threads on bearings and a few on reoccurring failures. But I thought I would list my findings. Fronts!

I had a bearing noise at 131k, so I replaced with a set of bearings and hubs...

Re: Subframe rust and safety

The bottom I believe is more than one layer so it tends to swell with rust, around where the lower control arm bolt is cradled. The box area under the transmission mount, continue towards the front...

Re: Subframe rust and safety

That is not all that bad. The other side gets oil on it from the filter change. So just take used oil and brush it on where the rust is when you change the oil.
Paint will just flake and hold...
