Re: GM transmissions

I did a bit more searching. I also found that there's been "oil wars" about this topic on other sites. If that happened here I missed it (now I'm afraid to search saturnfans to find out!). I hope I...

GM transmissions

Not a Saturn question but I think the minds here can help.

Our Plymouth Voyager finally was put out to pasture because of structural rust and replaced with a 2004 Chevy Venture with 80K miles on...

Re: Camshaft sensor

1997 was one of the years that the fuel pressure would leak down over time. My 1997 SL1 is one that is affected. I've still got the original pump. The engine almost never starts on the first crank in...

Re: Look for help, what do I get?

Fdryer gets to go to the front of the class with the correct answer, not to mention the first to answer.

And everyone else's pithy quips are appreciated. I was somewhat hesitant to mention the...

Look for help, what do I get?

I’m always on a quest to improve the mileage of my cars so I look around on the ‘net for ideas. Right here on Saturnfans I found a couple.

One involved taking magnets and somehow tying them to the...

Re: mod for my sl2

How about the old cycling trick of drillium? An example can be seen Here:

http://www.velo-retro.com/peterjohnson.html

Cuts weight and improves ventilation. What's not to like? But I would go...

Re: New cooling fan mod

I haven't had any problems with the engine running hot. It's never overheated for any reason. Even when I pulled the trailer with broken concrete in it but that's a different misadventure.

Re: mod for my sl2

I'll bite on this one. Um, assuming a laminar flow, how does the exhaust gas impinge on the catalyst?

Good catalytic action is going to require some turbulence. "Laminar flow" implies that...

New cooling fan mod

I've decided to modify the cooling fan circuit so that it comes on sooner, never liking how hot the engine got before it came on. So I've decided to add a parallel resistor to the ECTS and skew the...

Re: Think I need a new motor mount?

When I replaced the motor mount it took an hour and a half. See, there's a TV in the garage and the Red Wings were in the playoffs. Lucky the game didn't go into overtime, the replacement could have...

Re: HAVE A LITTLE FUN - What's your biggest repair mistake?

With almost 40 years of working on cars my memory is hazy.

The latest fiasco:
-After replacing the oil and filter in the transmission of the wife's Grand Voyager, I found the magnet that is stuck...

Re: Parts shortage can keep you out of your Saturn for weeks to come.

Some law. A coworker of mine owned a diesel Chevette, the transmission went out in it. He couldn't get parts or a replacement for it from the dealer, a search of the junkyards came up empty. He...

Re: Idle oddity after cleaning throttle body

A vacuum leak does sound like the most likely culprit. But along with checking for vacuum leaks, make sure the throttle damper is free to completely close. Could the throttle cable have picked up a...

Re: Heat or lack of

Read several other no heat threads so this weekend I replaced thermostat and flushed the heater core. There is "ok" heat now and temp. gauge now reads in the 3/8 postion. However I am not getting...

Re: Ignition wires, again

Thanks OldNuc, looks like I'll have to do some shopping. Hopefully I'll have one less problem when the snow is up to my waist.

Ignition wires, again

Yesterday when I was pulling my SL1 into the yard to change the oil, my day was brightened once again with the glow of my SES light. From the way it tripped on and the increased noise in the AM radio...

Re: Very LOW brake pedal,,, almost no brakes??need mayjor advice!

Oddly enough, I just had the drums off my SL1 this last weekend. I replaced the linings. I found they were hardly worn (135,000 miles). After fighting to get the drums off, they were replaced anyway....

Re: How long do you REALLY go between oil changes?

And I said I would stay out of the Oil Wars...

About 4K to 5K miles on both the Saturn and the Grand Voyager (3.3L). And use full synthetic in both but I'm pretty brand unconscious. I've used...

Re: Sky A/C weirdness

It's the default behavior.

I drove a Cavalier (old enough to have a 3 speed auto trans) that ran the air conditioner when the recirc button was pushed. My foreman at work just got assigned a...

Re: 1996 SL-1 locating trunk light bulb

My trunk light quit last winter. Since the light, just like the interior light, was just bright enough to AMOST see with I didn't bother to fix it.

Just last weekend when I vacuumed the trunk I...

Re: Overheating 95 SL, tried nearly everything

On my 97 SL1, there's a small line that runs from the driver's side of the engine to the plastic tank. I suppose it's supposed to bleed any air pockets out. If your '95 has one, check to see if it's...

Re: Leaking coolant, I think it's the water pump

When my water pump went bad on my '97 SL1, it initially fooled me. Usually when a pump seal fails the coolant gets slung out by the pump pulley. I felt the inside of the water pump pulley for coolant...

Re: will my SL1 1997 be able to carry a Uhaul trailer

One thing I forgot to mention: It's not like the transaxle differential is all that strong.

Re: will my SL1 1997 be able to carry a Uhaul trailer

My record for load in my '97 SL1 was 12 bags of readimix concrete IN the car. They were in the trunk, the back seat, the front seat and the floorboards. That just about wrecked the poor car. I didn't...

Re: When to call it quits

I'll probably give up on my '97 SL1 when the space frame rusts so badly I'm concerned about it's strength. The rear door rockers on mine are in pretty rough shape now. The way the drivetrain is going...
