Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

as a 21 year old college student, I fired up my first Geo Tracker that I bought for $650 after years of sitting in a field without even thinking about it. She's still running beautifully to this...

Re: need a/t brake pedal pad 1999 sl2

If you can't get one for a reasonable amount, maybe paint it with roll on bedliner for a little bit of grip.

And then add that to the "101 uses of bedliner" list that herculiner constantly adds to.

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

This click is a single click as you turn the wheel, correct? Not a continuous click click click as you drive with the wheel turned, correct?

Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

My 1998 SL2 ate a straw through the intake manifold at 180k miles during some light throttle body maintenance...it coughed and sputtered a bit, smoked for a few seconds and then kept purring. Oops. ...

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

All of the axles I have ever bought aftermarket had rings included. Last year I helped a buddy install a NAPA driver's side axle to his wife's 1999 SL2, and it had a ring. The ring was too large...

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

It should have some play in the groove, IIRC. An OEM axle with a ring in good shape should pop in without a lot of force. The video posted by Floridasls2002 shows the rings being available at the...

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

The reason I got them cheap/free is that I live in a very snow-free area, and both people had moved in from snow zones and sold the Saturn. That and they are vehicle specific and not well known...

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

Have you ever seen a set of Spikes Spiders come off of a car while driving? They are locked to the lug nuts (screwed into them, actually), so I think this is VERY highly unlikely. They are not...

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

That I do not know. I have a couple spares, but they are at a different location so I can't measure before you'll need to know. Measure the old one and post up the dimensions and we can help you...

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

Here's my 1998 SL2 before I brushed away the snow and drove away in the great Western Oregon snowstorm of Feb. 2014. Spikes spiders not visible, but the hubs were installed. I like not having to...

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

Oh, interesting.

McMaster has them.

In California, McMaster standard shipping shows up the next morning. YMMV depending on location.

Re: Passenger Side CV axle C-clip

Many (most...all?) aftermarket axles have c clips that are too large. Swap the clip from your old axle over to the new axle and it should pop right in.

Cheers!

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

Absolutely not. I ran them over my nice set of alloys and my Michelin X-Radial all seasons without any damage.

2 should be fine.

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

Again -- Spikes Spiders. The only traction devices recommended by Saturn. I've used them for years and never had issues.

Re: Tire Cables/ Chains?

Spikes Spiders are the best that can be had. I have picked them up for cheap/free out here on the left coast.

Re: Car sat for 6 months....precautions before start?

I'm pretty sure you can simply hold the throttle to the floor, crank until the oil light goes out and then release the pedal to start.

It's really no biggie -- I start engines after months of...

Re: What GM cars beside saturn had the trunk mounted CD changer?

I have one sitting around that I pulled from my 1998 SL2. Don't need it, will never use it. It's missing one cd tray, so it's an 11 disc changer. I have the bracket as well I think.

Pulled it...

If you accidentally already depressed the schrader valve with some type of tool and released all the refrigerant, then...
