Re: No more oil changes!

For what it's worth....I had very good luck running Rotella T6 synthetic 5W-40 in the 1.9L Saturn engines. I never had a non-burner become a burner and the ones that came to me burning oil never got...

Re: GM Dexos is changing.

Not sure if they're going to axe the 5W-40, though I note that the last bottle I saw at Wallymart no longer contained the API SM rating on the label...just the diesel ratings. No idea if they...

Re: GM Dexos is changing.

My family had a shop down in Westchester county (near NYC) since the late 30's. When my father wanted to retire, I did an analysis of the profitability of the business versus other uses of the land....

Re: Chem Dip Piston Ring Soak Update

That carbon will be mostly liquified or soft after the soak. Any loose bits will get either burned or blown out on the exhaust stroke and wind up getting sizzled in the cat. No worries.

Re: Loud Clunk

It's usually not the slide pins themselves but the worn rubber slide bushings that go. You can buy new ones relatively cheaply. They literally look like a 1 inch rubber section of a twizzler...

Re: FINALLY...my AF23 swap!!!

I have to hand it to you stubborn VTi swappers. Given the extreme pain in the rump factor, I don't think I could ever be bothered for a vehicle that's only worth a few thousand, at best. Hats off...

Re: is this a good deal?

That's an OK price for one that's already had the timing belt service done and is in decent shape. The sunroof drains are either blocked with dirt or, as someone else mentioned, the drain tubes...

Re: Honda 3.5L Oil Filter

To each their own. Fram says 99% efficiency for the TG line. I use them on all of my vehicles except the A8 (not available).

Re: Honda 3.5L Oil Filter

At the end of the day...longer....shorter....fatter....skinnier....doesn't matter. What you want is an EFFECTIVE filter. I would base my decisions on which brand is more effective at filtering out...

Re: 07 v6 AWD Vue - host of issues

If the timing belt hasn't been changed, chances are the valve clearance hasn't been checked (no hydraulic lifters on this baby) and the plugs might be original. Lots of possibilities for a rough...

Re: 07 v6 AWD Vue - host of issues

The hoses and calipers are cheap on rockauto.com. Just make sure to bleed the brakes when you're done.

The transmission fluid job isn't that hard. There's a drain plug and a fill hole. It's not...

Re: Reclear coating wheels?

Sadly, this is typical for the S-series alloys. If I were ever to own another (not very likely unless I decide to dabble in gutting one to make an EV), I'd probably just grind down any gouges, give...

Re: Thinking of switching to synthetic next oil change. Any point?

These engines work well with Rotella T6 fully synthetic oil. Available for about $20/gallon at your local Walmart. That will keep the engine internals spic n span. The cold pour point is -44F so...

Re: A/C question: Low side 40psi, High side climbs to 400psi+ until cutoff (at idle)

It's been a while since I looked at an S-series, but there might be another identical relay there in the panel that you can swap in and see if it works. They're not expensive so if that's the issue...

Re: A/C question: Low side 40psi, High side climbs to 400psi+ until cutoff (at idle)

That is indeed a good point, though it probably wouldn't explain the drastic differences in pressures that are reported. A working fan is definitely something that should be checked early in the...

Re: A/C question: Low side 40psi, High side climbs to 400psi+ until cutoff (at idle)

It's either a blockage or water in the system that's freezing/thawing and causing the cycling. If it was my car, I'd evacuate the system, replace the drier, replace with new R134a and re-test.

Re: What do you think this is.

High NO usually means that you've got high combustion chamber temps (running lean). It wouldn't shock me if the pintle on your EGR is gummed up with carbon based on the description you provided of...

Re: Diesel oil in 3rd gen

I wouldn't worry about any residual solvent remaining for long as it will mostly evaporate once the engine is run at operating temperature for a while.

However, if you're unlucky, those quickie...

Re: Diesel oil in 3rd gen

I used Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic in every S series I ever owned as well as a number of German cars (Audi A6/A8 and a Porsche 928-S4) and in my new Ford Mustang GT. Highly recommended and perfectly...

I had an airbag light on a 2006 VUE that was on and replacing the seat heating element fixed it.

Re: Headliner Falling

There are a number of threads here that do a step by step description of replacing the headliner. I've done it twice. It's not hard, but it is a pain in the butt. Doing it the right way (assuming...

Re: Review of DEA motor mount...

Heh. When I replaced mine, I did ALL of the mounts at the same time. Replacing the top one when all the others are shot will certainly lead to premature failure. :)

A buddy got a frowny and...

Re: Review of DEA motor mount...

I had pretty good luck with the DEA/Westar mount on my SC2. I subsequently gave the car to my folks and it seems to be holding up just fine 18 months later.

Best,

Re: Why are threads so old?

Spare me. The model A was produced NINETY years ago, not nine.

Good luck with that "collection."
