Re: Strange Stalling Behavior

Thank you for reminding me of the things I should have included in my original post.

The thermostat and ECTS were replaced last year and appear to be fine. No check engine lights come on when...

Strange Stalling Behavior

Hello the group,
I have a 95 SL1 with 180,000 miles on it and it has suddenly developed a little problem. Yesterday, during the commute to work, the car ran fine and then suddenly the idle drops to...

Re: Idle problem

Have you noticed any pinging under light load? A sticking EGR valve can also cause a rough idle and low-load pinging.

Re: 96 sl2 idle problem

This happened to me a few years ago and it turned out to be the O2 sensor.

Re: brand new belt squealing

I had the same problem with my 95 SL-1. I replaced the tensioner and the problem went away. Mine also felt good and tight, but it was not tight enough.

Re: Ebay Scam?

I would not waste a penny on that thing. 250 CF/M is not enough air to supply an engine with more air than it can get on its own. It is a great concept to power a turbo with electricity for a quick...

Re: Those miserly SOHC engines

I too have seen the SL1s moving back into service and also being stolen a lot out here in California. My 95 is maintaining an average of about 42 MPG, even with the commute drive into the San...

Re: where has the oil gone

Two quarts in 300 miles is a quart every 150 miles. That is a lot of oil unaccounted for. How do your plugs look?

Re: SL1 SOHC - Run away engine - Help!

My 95 SL1 did almost the same thing with a very high idle. It turned out to be the oxygen sensor.

Re: Improving a 95 SL1

"a photo? looks like a spring"

Had I been clearer, I would have asked if someone had a photo of a 95 Saturn with those springs installed. I don't want to be one of the people who have their cars...

Re: Improving a 95 SL1

Duh,

You are right that I would not want them if they are the same. I think I was thinking they were hi-perf springs. Not sure why. I need more sleep. Nevermind on the purchase.

Re: Improving a 95 SL1

Wow,

Thank you for all of the information. I suspect the 1 and 2 series cars are the same since the performance spring part numbers seem to be for all S series cars. Are you interested in...

Re: Improving a 95 SL1

Thank you for all of the great information. I understand the geometry issues and was under the impression the springs I was looking at were to improve performance, but your information made me...

Re: Radiator Hoses

My philosophy is that it is money well spent to proactively and change a few hoses rather than sit on the side of the road. Perhaps that is the pilot in me.

Re: Improving a 95 SL1

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I think I will pass for now on the new engine, but will consider it if mine should fail. The suspension mods I am considering are:

H&R Sport Lowering...

Re: 1999 SL2 won't start-clicking

Yup, most likely cause is the battery. I learned from lots of experience to replace batteries at three years. I downgrade those batteries to project cars I am working on and find they do not last...

Re: Radiator Hoses

I went with a NAPA aftermarket thermostat and it has been fine. I think it was something like twenty bucks.

Re: Radiator Hoses

If it were my car, I would replace the hoses, replace the thermostat as mentioned by others, would put in a new ECTS since they are pretty innexpensive, and would put in new anti-freeze. That would...

Improving a 95 SL1

I have a 95 SL-1 and need to do some performance enhancements now that I have an other car and can put the Saturn out of service for a few days. It will continue to be driven on the street and not...

Re: fan relay location

Are you saying that you put in a new thermostat or are you wondering if it is the thermostat?

I would be looking at the thermostat with your symptoms since it may not be closing, which will...

Re: Car Alarm Recommendations

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions. Perhaps I should turn this thread around and ask about recommendations for a system that would give me an alarm, an ignition lockout, and allow me...
