The high speed relay in the pcm is never closed by itself. to achieve "High Speed" both the low and high speed relays are commanded closed by the pcm. "Low Speed" is achieved by the pcm only...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

So I drove around a bit, not really too far. A little over 2.5 miles. Never had the fan come on, but when checking temps, I was seeing 213 at the ects, and 198 on the upper radiator hose. Temperature...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

Went for something a little more stout, ha ha. Now to warm it up and see if it worked, or if it blows up, ha ha.

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

Oh right good catch. Or... remove the control relay and put a jumper in the fuse box from 30 to 87. Then make sure the working fan is connected as Cooling Fan Left. And then no matter what, that fan...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

So in my crazy "Lets hack it" wisdom, I had the idea, that I could simple unplug the failed fan, and "jump over" it by putting a jumper wire in the connector going to the fan from the car. This would...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

Well I guess if it never powers on that (labeled)low speed relay by itself this all makes sense. Ha ha, I was wondering for a second if we were looking at the right schematic. I was just going by...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

There are three states in that schematic you posted. Low closed by itself turns on Cooling Fan Right only. High closed by itself turns on both fans in series(half power). Both High and Low closed...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

I know now that it isn't dedicated as the AC fan. However swapping the fans and warming it up showed that the low speed relay in the PCM doesn't close until it exceeds 235F, according to my...

Yeah, I already did the direct connect to battery and the fan never came on. It's toast. Was thinkin' I'd just pick up a fan and replace the one. Still gotta figure out how to tear into...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

So, went out, and did some more testing with this schematic in hand, looks to be an exact match. So after some poking and prodding, turns out it's just the fan ("Cooling Fan Right" on the schematic,...

So that 234-237 was at idle in the driveway with AC on. So the passenger fan was on. Later I did it again, idle in the driveway, and it maxed at 203. But so far who knows if those are even...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

That is probably the worst part about fixing this vehicle is that there seems to be a serious lack of service manual info. Haynes has a manual for the Vue from 2002 to 2009. How that makes sense with...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

The t-stat rating is 185
-oh and when checking with an infrared thermometer, the rad gets up to 235 at idle and the fan just won't come on. (proly would go higher, but I shut it down at that point)...

Re: 3.5L ECTS location, and other things

Just found it, but the main wire loom for the engine is run right over top of it with zero flex. How do you move that out of the way? Disconnect everything just to move it over by an inch? Any help...

3.5L ECTS location, and other things

Hi guys, new here, but have honestly been coming around for a while to get some insight into some of the problems I've run into with this thing. At this point I've dealing with a cooling problem and...
