Re: Axle/bearing play?

They only have slack axially, none rotationally at all. I can only think this is either both wheel bearings, or the tranny mount. It only happens going straight, and only under 30mph. I can feel...

Re: how to tell if rings or valve seals or both?

I'd have to agree. From the picture, there looks to be a definite excess in oxidation. Also, I can't tell with not seeing, but cylinder 4 piston looks to have a nice burn effect on it. How are the...

Re: A/C clutch with no Voltage

Thanks alot for posting those diagrams. I would be more successful if I were at all confident in my electrical skills. I've never been good with wires. I got as close to the junction box as...

Re: Axle/bearing play?

Forgot to mention that I also checked those with a crowbar. No movement whatsoever. That was my mechanic friend's first guess as well.

Re: t-chain tensioner

Your finger is enough. I just did that job. Push in on the plunger while using finger force on the lever. It shouldn't take much force at all, but it can get alittle stuck, which you can usually...

Axle/bearing play?

I've been troubleshooting a clunking front end noise that you can feel through the steering wheel. First, I replaced the top motor mount because mine was literally in half. The problem didn't go...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

I took the cap off the reservoir. We have a constant stream from the small line. I ran the car for 15 minutes. Again, as soon as it hits 9/16th, the fan turns on, the thermostat opens, and the...

Re: A/C clutch with no Voltage

I traced the green wire all the way back to the junction box. It never gets power. It says 0.4v all the way from the compressor to the junction box. The switch has 12v however, as does the IGN3...

Re: A/C clutch with no Voltage

Both pins 30 and 87 are sending 12v, but neither 85 or 86 show any current at all. The pressure switch also shows no current, but the connector at the switch shows 14v.

Re: A/C clutch with no Voltage

The system has 45lb psi, which I think should be enough to turn on the switch. I jumped the female and still got zero voltage to the connector on the compressor. When I jumped it, my engine idle...

Re: A/C clutch with no Voltage

I checked the fuse block as well per richpin video. There was 12+v at the 30 with car running. There was continuity between the bottom left and the connector on the compressor. There was no power...

A/C clutch with no Voltage

My A/C clutch won't engage. So I went thru richpin's guide. There is only 0.4v at the connector on the a/c compressor, so I went to the pressure switch connector. There is 14V at the connector,...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

Okay, I replaced the EGR, and the engine light is gone. Drove 10 miles, still gone. However, after the engine gets hot, if I'm at a light, the temp will rise to just above the halfway point and the...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

It started at zero, and as I pushed in the pintle it raised to 1.5, then as I let out the pintle it continued to climb to 2.1. It did this on both pin variations. Never went back to zero.

Is...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

I have 4.98V between B and D on the connector, sometimes 4.99V.

I also tested the OHM at B,C & C,D in the valve. It fluctuated with no change when pushing the pintle in or out. In fact, the...

Do you know what colored wires pins B and D are on, or if they are the 2nd an4th pins with the clip facing down or up? And could I test adjacent pins in the valve with the car running to see if the...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

Replaced the ICM, and now she's running on all cylinders. Yippee! Still getting that p0405 code, and its using ALOT of gas. Cleaned EGR valve...again, for the third time. I'm using the valve...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

Swapped out the platinum plugs I had in it with the OE NGK plugs. Bought Belden MAX wires. That fixed No.3. Now 2&3 fire off either coil, but 1&4 will not, no matter which coil I put in that...

Re: 2001 Saturn SL2 -code P0300 and P0340

Same code, same exact symptom. Most likely bad ICM, coil, or plug wires. An easy oldschool way to figure it out is, with the car running, remove one wire at a time from the plugs. If the car starts...

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

I swapped the coil and cleaned oil surfaces. 1&4 still don't fire. Now however, 3 doesn't fire either. I can't believe the car is running off one cylinder. I swapped coils again and realized that...

I've been on both the business and working side of construction for the last 12 years. Mostly the working side. I've subbed out work to countless electricians and plumbers. After expenses, they...

Re: Oil in my plugs

Fully support the last post. I'm assuming you have the DOHC engine. The valve cover gasket is composed of two separate gaskets, and one is designed primarily to keep oil out of the plugs. When I...

Re: Persistent P0401

Same problem. Cleaned twice. Plunger is totally free. Still coming up with p0404 and p0405.

Cleaned out airways with Seafoam and an air compressor. No change.

Saturns......

Re: Codes p0340 and p0405 -- car running BADLY. New plugs, ECTS, etc.

I realized I've been going about this like a person foreign to engines since I'm used to big ol' 60/70's V8's. So today, I did what I would do to any old engine to test distributors/coils/wires. ...
