The switch is adjusted ! Transmission is happy..so am I !

20 or 30 years ago I would have said "to the devil with instructions...adjust it ! " I'm getting to cautious in my old age :)

I'll do step 2 tomorrow. Since it is a new GM switch, and they say just bolt it up, I was hesitant to even try the continuity test. Guess it can't hurt anything now . The cable from the hand...

Transmission Switch...Again

I replaced the range switch with a genuine GM Range Switch . Installation went well..no adjustments are made. Car starts only in Neutral and Park, back up lights come on...
EXCEPT..... Now...

UPDATE on More transmission range questions.

1- carefully resetting the old switch worked...except for not starting in park, just neutral... Maybe another go at resetting will fix that.
Note: Instructions with generic new switches are...

The 'old' switch (unknown brand...from Auto Zone) looks exactly like the original GM unit.
How ever:

What position does the shift lever (on range switch) point when it is in neutral ?

I'm trying to change to a new genuine GM switch... directions say to put the transmission in neutral. I did...

I bought a new switch at Autozone. It is marked "Saturn" (cast in) with a part number 24022303 below the name.
The box says made in Japan.
Can this really be a Saturn part, but made in...

Thank you , Nuc. With only 1 fault showing, I thought that had to be the case. The present switch is only a couple months old...new does not mean good !

Range switch faulty ?

2001 SL 2, 187xxx miles., trans. flush and fluid change 2 days ago. Symptoms predate that.
Symptoms : Rare reverse slam, Also rare- seems to lose 4th gear..engine just revs with gas applied....

I really doubt anyone has used that tool, it was probably conjured up as response to an irate customer. Quite probably it was never even made ?

You might check to be sure the rotors are fully up against the hub... Be sure there is no accumulation of rust or dirt etc 'behind' the rotor. Are the pads seated properly ?

2001 SL2 with 180k+ miles.
3 or 4 weeks ago the car developed the typical multi-defect report with the SES light on constant.
I read the comments about the wires from the elec. plug on...

Yes, it certainly does work ! I use a light oil with Teflon on my household fans and humidifier motors. AC DC makes no difference.

Drum brakes

I just adjusted my 2001 sl2 rear drum brakes :
For what it's worth , turn the star wheel UP to tighten the brake drum.
I never seem to remember that !

Basic tests : Do you have power to the lights ?
Do you have a ground to the lights ? (power on one side. ground on the other)
