Re: The definitive guide to Gen3 S-series instrument cluster bulb replacement

I ended up not converting to LED. Ended up finding a Pontiac Torrent at the wreckers and installed that instead

Re: How many s series owners became ion owners

I believe they were L-body. I couldn't accept the Sundance's lower MPG so I ended up with the Charger's twin, the Plymouth Tursimo. Both my Horizon (4 spd manual) and Turismo (5 spd manual) were...

Re: 97 SL2 manual trans/cruise control accelerates uncontrollably

Accelerates as in "just as if I were to slowly push the gas pedal" or as in "feels like I downshifted and stomped on the gas pedal"

A couple things I would check is see if the switch/contact is...

Re: 01 sl2 100,000 refresh?

Are you using the cheapest ones, or one of the up-level Fram filters (think they are called extra guard or tough guard or something)?

Stock size or extended length?

Just curious, I generally...

Re: 01 sl2 100,000 refresh?

FIFY :)
(every CL / eBay add says the owner changed the oil every 3k miles, and the car was only driven by a little old lady to church- one of my favorites was a Civic where the ad said "non smoker...

Re: New to Saturn

You're welcome - credit for the PDF probably goes to our resident AC guru/advisor fdryer, probably something I downloaded a while ago to my PC and reposted it later in that thread. I download too...

Re: AC pressure numbers

By coincidence, just posted a link to the saturn AC pressure chart here, near the end of the thread

Re: R134a port caps

Third for new valves. Kit is under $10 (maybe closer to $5) for two valves and two new plastic caps.

There is a tool that allows you to remove the valve cores with no more than a loss of a puff...

Re: 01 sl2 100,000 refresh?

+1, I ran Walmart Supertch synthetic for 5k miles all the time in my '98.
More likely, the PO never checked the oil between oil changes:dizzy:

I checked the oil on my 98 every week and added 3~6...

Re: Driver window regulator + motor time

lol, 100% success rate

+1, always best troubleshoot before buying parts. Unless money doesn't matter :D

My '98 with manual windows was a broken slider block.

My '02 was the...

Re: New to Saturn

6 years since you bought the car - time flies :)

If the AC needs occasional refilling, there is a (very slow) leak. I'd try tightening the Schrader valves first since it costs $0 and can be done...

Re: Current Motor Oil Rebates

Not a rebate, but a clearance.

2.5 gallons (10 quarts) of 5w40 Rotella T6 for $15 (per OP at link, is marked down at $30 but rings up at $15, could be a pricing error at Walmart)

Re: AC without the engine

according to this:

https://carfromjapan.com/article/car-maintenance/how-much-gas-does-idling-use/

you'd probably use 1.3~2.4 gallons of gas idling overnight (8 hours). Since the car is...

Re: How many s series owners became ion owners

Reminds me of when I went to replace my Horizon (40 mpg hwy). The replacement they had on lot, the Sundance with a 2.5L / manual trans, was rated for 28 mpg hwy. Not even close.

You know,...

Re: high idle and negative fuel trim

One month before a serious ****up rendering the car inoperable - might be a new record

I know there are some anti theft things in there, not sure what they all are though. Never looked at...

Re: I got stung today...........

Thanks, but WI is a bit far for me to drive. If I'm going that far for an old Saturn, I'd go south first :D

Also need to get rid of a couple of cars before adding one more. Driveway is about...

Re: 2001 SL2 repeatedly blows fuse but only at >60 mph.....

I dealt with my "previous owner DIY wiring mess" at the front of my car (no high beams or DRLs) by grabbing some stock wiring at the junkyard.

I figured it was worth the money not to have to...

Makes sense. :D
It has an automatic transmission that you change gears by using the stick thing in between the seats, so . . .

Could be . . . if you try and buy that $500 subaru with the...

Re: Newbie Question

Nearly forgot, early cars (91-92) use a slightly different front subframe/motor mount. You probably won't need a subframe if rust is not an issue where you are, but one of the S-series weaknesses...

Pop up headlight motors. NLA new.
I think I read somewhere that one of the corvette (w pop up light) motors could be used? You'd have to search here as I might be misremembering

I wouldn't trust...
